How'd you get to chat without a AppleCare subscription? I couldn't find it and ended up doing it all on the phone. Apple's support pages are very fragmented.

I was on the phone with Apple today. Gave them a real serial I found online, they wanted to charge me 19.99 for support but I stated that this is a software issue and I'm running the latest OSX. We proceeded for free.

I gave them control of the machine via a remote screen share. Eventually I was put on hold why the tech contacted iMessage support. 5 mins went by before she returned and said to try login again.

It did not work; same 'Contact Apple' screen with code. I re-verified my CC info, authorized the computer on iTunes. Still no go. She disconnected her remote share. It was 30+ mins on the phone by now.

Another tech came on from higher up, but I had to go so could not let him continue. He also wanted a remote screen share on this system.

Not sure what to do from here, maybe yosimite will fix it. Oh, and the mention of IP blocking a couple of posts up, I switched my IP by tethering through my iPhone 5S onto the LTE network. Nope, no iMessage, same popup saying to call Apple.

The quest to restore iMessage continues...

You are correct; I noticed when I read it that it is not really meant to be followed step-by-step. Anyway, I reinstalled with my wifi card uninstalled from the system. I then set everything up using the nvram dylib, and now am asked to contact apple with a code. I am happy now, because, based on what I've seen on this forum, this problem really isn't on your end anymore, but is on Apple's servers blocking you out. I plan to call apple to have them do whatever magic they do fix this issue (I'm just glad I'm not getting a generic error anymore which showed it was something on my end).

As others have said, the code error seems to be a block on Apple's end. I called them up, saying my Macbook Air was giving me the code, they did something, and then my hack could log into imessage perfectly like before my reinstall. They didn't even ask me for my Air's serial number and were very kind about everything.

Had my concerns about calling Apple with a hackintosh but it's all good - up and running! Now, to fix the wifi dropouts and I'll be 100% stoked!

Got a Logitech C615 last night and tried to login to Facetime. No dice. I deleted the security plists and rebooted. Now iMessage is out as well gave me a code to contact Apple with.

I'm waiting on the call now. It will be interesting if this also fixes my Facetime issue.

No dice. Gave the person on the other end the serial of my MBP and he said because I was out of AppleCare, I had to pay $19 for help.

How did everyone else get around it?

I woke up this morning to everyone being offline in my iMessage. I had an idea of what had happened, but I tried logging in again to receive the call Apple message. I then went to my unloved, but genuine iMac and logged and back in successfully. I pondered my options, upgrade 21.5 iMac with a real processor, ram, and for god sake replace that joke of a spinning hard drive. Suck it up and sign on the dotted line for a real power house mac pro?

I'm poor, so I broke down and called Apple. I have a house full of Apple products, but I simply can't afford a 4500 dollar iMac that would match my mackintosh!!

I didn't pay the 19 dollars because I was honest with the gentleman. Though I don't think he ever did understand that I a was using a Mackintosh. Eventually after going over my serial a few times, he relented. Asked me what my issue was. I explained to him that Apple's iMessage server was blocking my nonApple desktop from logging in to the service. After a few seconds of hmm mss, he said try it now. BOOYAH!! I'm back in business.

Personally I'd pay 19 bucks a year for the service. I want to buy a genuine Apple so bad I've had to go to appleholics anonymous. So please Apple, legitimize just slightly the Mackintosh crazy, or sell someone an enthusiast could love. Something between the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro. I mean, it's not like there isn't like the entire computer industry between those two extremes! I just can't dig a computer that's glued together! Not cool! I can understand a high level of integration, but not even the ram or hard drives are replaceable? But then I suppose my rant is pointless since I doubt anyone at Apple will ever read this. It's not like I want to cheat Apple, It's just I love my baby girl and don't want to cut off an arm and a leg. I own a iPhone(3rd), iPad, and even an iMac 12,1! But it's saddled with what has got to be the slowest spinning hard drive Apple could find from 1984!! In the time it takes it to boot the os, I can load the os and 3 Window's VM's on my Hack! I think that clicking must be a gerbil workshop doing calculations on an abacus inside the case! I do know that the 12,1 is not glued, but then I wouldn't call it user serviceable either.

When I finish my degree, and if I manage to get hired, I'll likely finally buy a Mac Pro with a Apple display. I'm older and don't find joy in making stuff work like I used to. I would also like to take this time to thank the Tonymac forums and website for their help in using OS X on my PC. Oh, the pain when I have to use Win8 in my computer labs!

Hmm, I wonder if I bought a broken iMac with the same model designation as my Hac uses? I could then use those hardware numbers to make complete the masquerade?

OH!! The world is a cruel cruel place!! (I know, the definition of a first world problem!)

My MB is the following: MotherBoard AsRock H77 Pro4-M

@tommo84,

Thanks for confirming your motherboard type, i have added it to the list in Part-2 of the guide.

the nvram.uuid.plist file has still the incorrect uuid values, even if I managed to change the system ID with a valid one (as confirmed by IOJones).

If you have successfully sorted the SId bug out and the new SM UUID your injecting is confirmed by IOJones but the UUID contained in nvram.uuid.plist is still incorrect then there is likely an issue with the interaction between the boot-loader and FileNVRAM.

You don't say which boot-loader your using ?, so its difficult to diagnose, if your using Chimera then you should be using version 3.0.1 (see step 3) with FileNVRAM 1.1.3. Please see step 5 of the guide for guidance with FileNVRAM not working. Try Step 5e to reset the nvram plist.

Altough I am able to set correctly the MLB value, the ROM value is like<xx633xxx 6634xx64 xxx83337>, even if I manually instert my Mac adress by using the command sudo nvram 4D1EDE05-38C7-4A6A-9CC6-4BCCA8B38C14:ROM=xxxxxxxxx

The ROM value is displayed differently to the value that you set it too, although i've never seen that sort of syntax displayed before ?, not sure whats going on there. I would try and resolve the FileNVRAM UUID issue first, its possible that solving that will resolve the wired ROM value issue.

Cheers

To call the Apple Support is not so easy in Germany as described here:

I found a real iMac serial number on eBay and build a MLB number. ROM is the Mac address of the ethernet card.
So at iMessages login i got this "Call your Apple Customer Hotline with this Validation Code" thing.

And i called:

They wanted to know the serial number of my Mac. So i give them the eBay serial number. The guy wonders, why there is another person linked than me. I said, i got this Mac from ebay. He wanted to know my phone number, my eMail address and my Apple ID and at the end he wanted to link my AppleID with this Mac.
Then i thought: what happened if the real buyer of this Mac would like to login to iMessages? And i stopped this call. Now they have my personal contacts and a "hacked" serial. Feels not so great...

I am using Chimera 2.2.1 with the FileNVRAM 1.1.2. Do You think I should use the Chimera 3.0.1 instead?

@McMighty,

As detailed in the guide I strongly advise against using cloned Apple Device ID's, It's clear that as the release of OSX 101.10 draws near, Apple are tightening iMessage security to protect users from being cloned and spammed via iMessage, more checks are being done on duplicate OSX S/N & UUID's, invalid MLB & ROM values as well as IP checks. I suspect that this is in readiness for all the new SMS features that will be part of iMessage in OSX 10.10

If you read through the last few pages of this thread you will see that many users have had success at getting the UUID/Device/IP block lifted from their AppleID. If your unfortunate enough to get an Apple representative who is less than willing to help. Give it a day or so and try again. Try to stress that it is a software issue and that a lock has been put on your AppleID be sure to explain the iMessage alert with the Customer Code ... that customer code is the key to unlocking the block.

Good Luck
Cheers
Jay
