I forgot to mention this but /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports would also be a relevant place to look for logs. In fact without the fix applied the infamous "login loop" is caused by loginwindow.app crashing and its crash reports get written to that place. Maybe your problem is caused by something similar.
Here's a list of md5 checksums if you want to make absolutely sure that the proper files are in place.
A lot of these are identical because it's the same file renamed/symlinked. They probably originally all stem from the same framework/library that Apple saw fit to split up and dispatch during the course of the years.
On a final note if you want to revert the fix simply boot in safe mode and reinstall the 10.8.2 update it will erase any modification made by it, that's the slow and easy way.
Or restore all the files saved in step 1 of the fix to their respective locations, that's the faster and slightly more complicated way.
