Jay,

I have a feeling that the white-listing is not required any more.

I have a non-white-listed MLB (13 digit) created by PPYWWSSSSCCCC method where SSSS are random numbers. Before the Feb. 14's update, "contact iMessage support with the code" dialog appeared when I tried to use it. As I gave up to use the number and did not call Apple support, I think it is not white-listed even now. Seeing the recent reports, I tried to use the MLB again, then iMessage worked perfectly without the "contact the support" dialog.

@dekalb & All,

If this is true then it MAY indicate that Apple are opening iMessage up for other platforms ?

I'll do some more investigation over the next few days and try and confirm everything soon, but if your post and the previous one are true it would suggest that things are back to how they were before Apple implemented the enhanced MLB verification in late Nov 2014 :-

  • MLB & ROM can be local generated and do not have to follow the Apple patten
  • MLB & ROM do not need to be white-listed
  • Two factor Authentication is not a requirement
I find it hard to believe that this is the case but hey - it's my birthday today and getting iMessage back on all my systems is a great birthday present ....

Everyone please send feedback to confirm (or not) any or all of the above ....

Of course this could always be a 'blip' we know Apple have introduced 2FA for iMessage login which may have required a database rebuild / flagged ID purge ... lets see how things are after a few days .. but for now it's certainly looking good for everyone - and has arrived just in time to be included in the updated iMessage guide which will be on line soon.

Cheers
Jay

@All,

As reported and confirmed by multiple users, iMessage is working again using a basic MLB created by using your OSX S/N plus a few additional digits (both 13 and 17 digit MLB's) - as long as it has been white-listed.

It looks like you must have two factor authentication enabled in order for iMessage to work with locally generated values (as detailed in Step 5d of the guide) but other than that if iMessage stopped working for you late last year and you have not changed anything ... try it - it should work.

I've updated the news at the start of the guide with this information and removed the warning from step 5d.

I'm working on the new release of the guide which will be on-line in a few weeks with improved and simplified navigation.

Lets see if this lasts ...

Cheers
Jay

I have values generated locally but no two factor authentication and everything works.

Happy birthday :)

I generated my MLB (13 digit) yesterday to follow the Apple pattern and match my other specs. I didn't have to call Apple Support. It just worked. I do not have 2FA enabled (currently waiting 3 days so I can use it, though).

Happy Birthday!

Here's my info, in case it helps:

I didn't get iMessage working pre-Nov 2014.
During Dec 2014, I used MLB/ROM from my rMBP, and everything was fine until New Year's when it broke again, so I stopped using iMessage on the hackintosh and went back to just the laptop and phone.

Later I tried using the MLB/ROM from an older Mac Mini I have (still on 10.6.8 I believe, so no iMessage there). Got the "call support" message, but didn't call them—I just gave up.

When I saw that iMessage was suddenly working again, I tried once more with the Mac Mini values (which I hadn't changed since giving up earlier). It works fine now without having to call Apple. I don't have 2FA set up, that I know of.

Can't wait to get home and try this on my second hackintosh that I hadn't bothered to call Apple with the code. This is awesome news!

I pretty much gave up using messages on my hack since December massacre. :)

I have old non-working G5 and extracted MLB from the board (from G5!) and used ethernet address shown on the case sticker, applied to my clover setting, left UUID blank and had gotten customer support code but never bothered to call Apple until reading the threads today. I just kept trying to log in and notice I was getting same customer code over and over so decided to call this morning.

Called Apple, verified my identity, gave my code, he said it's activated, then I was able to log in right away and started sending, receiving messages including sms after activating with my iPhone.

Happy Birthday, JayMonkey!
