The only real "temporary Fix" that really work is Playing a little movie in a loop in VLC Player, so the Grpahic Card is always running. OR Just watch tv in Safari, that also keeps the Graphic Card busy.

using this fix for 2 years now! Forget anything else, it will not work, we need to wait till Apple fixes this issue.

Hi everyone.

I've been reading this thread all day looking for a fix..

Alright, I have a GTX 550 ti. Running just fine on 10.8, what exactly do I need to do ? (I'm going to update to 10.8.2)

I read what martinherrmann said but I would like links to everything I need .. and the commands.

Cheers.

Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1581

The General Thread for all the Commands etc: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...i-sleep-wake-freeze-thread-83.html#post454422

A User also posted further Information: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...i-sleep-wake-freeze-thread-95.html#post464818

Read em Carefully.

So yeah you install the Combo update and don't reboot. aswell you install the Nvidia Drivers from the pkg and don't reboot again. (i was using this one: http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-304.00.00f20-driver.html VERSION: 304.00.00f20 MIND THE VERSION)
then you run the commands to change the Frameworks or even install the Drivers. (i didnt install change the kext. just the framework from the download provided in these posts.) Then reboot. Make sure you rly checked everything in the guides etc.

So far no more issues and stuff. all running good now.

Still wondering if the new drivers are better.

Thank you very much lisapower and martinherrmann !

Hello everybody.

So installed the 304.00.05f02 Drivers including the related Frameworks.
i mentioned a slight improvement on the FPS Side so far and will report back if i discover mayor issues with it.

cheers.

I was also having the same kinds of lock ups with the original 10.8.2 driver.

So i installed 304.10.20f04 and the corresponding framework from the latest macbook retina 10.8.2 update and since then no more freezes!!! Woohoo, System is running stable for over a week now no matter how often the display or the whole system goes to sleep.
Hope it remains this way, but for now all seems to be working great!

Thank you, aolivero !!
Used the drivers from this post: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...-sleep-wake-freeze-thread-101.html#post479986
And the instructions in this one: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...i-sleep-wake-freeze-thread-95.html#post464818

I have been watching this thread for a while, hoping for a fix. I have a few questions.

So is there an updated version of Mountain Lion from Apple yet? Or is it an update? If its an update how do you not reboot, it seems that you have no option not to reboot while updating, the update doesn't seem to install until you choose to reboot.

Last thing. If there isn't an update, I bought a copy of the OSX Lion that comes on that tiny USB drive, but I can't seem to get it off there, to install it with iBoot, or Lion Diskmaker?

Any suggestions on Lion if thats what it takes to make it work?

Better yet, does anyone know of a relatively cheap $100 range video card that will REALLY work? I have a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R By the way.

Anyone got hardware video decoding with GTX 550ti ? the strangest thing is that it works on my Lion 10.7.4 install, but not on my ML 10.8.2 one.

Here is the message from VDADecoderChecker on ML 10.8.2:

Last login: Fri Jan 18 00:51:45 on ttys000
192-168-0-144:~ Vlad$ /Users/Vlad/Downloads/VDADecoderChecker ; exit;
AVF info: Successfully connected to the Intel plugin, offline Gen6
AVDCreateGPUAccelerator: Error loading GPU renderer
An error was returned by the decoder layer. This may happen for example because of bitstream/data errors during a decode operation. This error may also be returned from VDADecoderCreate when hardware decoder resources are available on the system but currently in use by another process.
VDADecoderCreate failed. err: -12473
logout

I have my Gtx550ti with DSDT edit (but it's the same as GE=Yes), iMac 12,1 with edited AGPM kext.

Also on my Lion 10.7.4 install, it Video Decoding Acceleration only works with 12,1 smbios.

Any thoughts on this ? Here is the tool for anyone who wants to check.
