[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Okay... so after the nightmare couple of days of flashing this:

I've had a few freezes using the UAD and another app OBS.. streaming live to a class and froze
(had been using old MacBook to do it no problems apart from CPU pushed).
Audio continued though.
Tried again without streaming and just running UAD & OBS and again it froze, audio continued.

Now OBS in itself can be a flaky app with Catalina so I've read over from forums yesterday etc.

However, just looking over the last few posts and noticed I'm not running up to 40Gb..
I do have a TB3 to TB2 Adapter for the UAD - would this matter and has anyone experienced any freezes like this with UAD or any audio soundcard since flashing?

Apart from this everything is good.

The screenshot is 100% correct.
  • Port 1 is at 20 Gb/s because it's connected to a Thunderbolt 2 device.
  • Port 2 is at 40 Gb/s default (not connected to anything).
If you connect a Thunderbolt 3 device the port will say 40 Gb/s.

Regarding the issues with UAD, I'll have to defer to other UAD owners for comment...

Hello guys!

"Good News" I have a correctly connect via thunderbolt to the Antelope device.
...
Hello @srmusico,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. @qthegaijin was unable to get the Antelope device to work on a flash add-in-card such as GC-Alpine Ridge and GC-Titan Ridge. In your case, however, the on-board Thunderbolt controller is being used.

But the Antelope device was functional for only about 20 seconds? Is the summary below correct?
  • Gigabyte X299X with flashed on-board firmware
    • Antelope Zen detected after warm boot and could play for 10-20 seconds
  • Asus X299 with ThunderboltEX 3 add-in-card
    • Unable to detect Antelope as an audio device; unable to play
  • GC-Alpine Ridge / GC-Titan Ridge
    • Unable to play

Thank you for helping and explaining- I went ahead and ordered my TB3 to TB2 adapter and expect it to arrive this evening.

Last clarifications:
  • Does the tb domain uuid changing/inconsistent on reboot reflect any problems?
  • Is it expected for the GPU temp not being recognized in iStats?
  • How can I send you a small token of appreciation? Starbucks gc/amazon/? As I have studied your work and literally purchased the z390 as many matching components to ensure my 1st build has a chance at functioning - almost flipped through the 2000+ pages. Re-examined my board to make sure I didn't damage a capacitor when flashing my tb3. It is appreciated and I am open to helping beta test to further your research/effort.
Happy to answer your questions:
  • Yes it's okay for Thunderbolt Domain UUID to change. But the UID is fixed.
  • iStat Menus might not display the temps, fan speeds and voltages correctly. Instead, please try HWMonitorSMC2 from CloverHackyColor on GitHub.
  • You're always welcome to contribute to the website using the Contribute button at the very top left of the page.
  • Thanks for your willingness to participate in future beta tests.

Found a good price on an LG 4K 24MD4KLB-B so I pulled the trigger and it arrives tomorrow. I'm looking forward to doing some testing on my patched GC-TR, hoping I can get multiple monitors working over thunderbolt. Anyone with patched add-in cards running multiple monitors over thunderbolt?

Z490 Vision D or Z490 Designare ? Is it the same motherboard or a new name for the Designare or will there be both... ?

Hello.
No, isn’t correct.

I have used ONLY a Gigabyte Titan Ridge Pcie Card un my both x299 and x299x Mobos.

both of them are without onboard thunderbolt.

In the X299x had worked 20 segs yes.

I have to complete also the configuration in the system . Maybe after complete it , works ? Lol

I think a good way of communicating with Antelope developers would be as follows:
  • Complete the Thunderbolt configuration (Thunderbolt DROM) by following the appropriate guide in this thread.
  • Attach the Antelope, then reboot the system with Antelope already connected.
  • Run IORegistryExplorer and save the file: File --> Save As...
  • Grab a screenshot of System Information --> Thunderbolt
  • Grab a screenshot of System Information --> PCI
  • Grab a screenshot of System Preferences --> Sound
  • Then send the IOReg file and 3 screenshots to Antelope Audio engineers.
  • When you get their reply, please tell us what they say so we can help you with next step

Vision D is the new Designare. If you look at the board itself you will see the word "Designare".
