[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

My monitors are HDR, and I can enable it, but HDR content seems to still be playing SDR, and YouTube (in chrome of course) does not show any HDR content available.

Anyone else had any luck with HDR?

Thanks! That's looking much better with this updated DROM! Screenshot attached

Why does changing the vendor/device name and the buffer size (the 0x65) have that effect?

@CaseySJ Quick update. I restarted my computer after a cold boot, and the USB controller for the Titan Ridge (PEG1 DSB1@1) was initialized! :O The LG UltraFine 5K connected to the Titan Ridge became just as functional as the one connected to the Designare: graphics, brightness, webcam, audio all working. That didn't persist after another cold boot, but restarting fixed it again.

Hi there.

I think the general advice is:

update Clover to the latest
update Lilu.kext and Whatevergreen.kext
ensure you have a bootable UniBeast installer drive for Catalina to act as a back-up boot device if things go awry.
ensure any vital info is backed-up safe elsewhere.
run the App Store installer.

To be honest this is good advice whatever the upgrade. If you have a particular concern, spell that out so someone can address that for you

:)

@CaseySJ, FYI. I have been following the MacRumor's testing TB3 AIC with MP 5,1 thread and saw this post. I didn't know if you've seen it or have it bookmarked. Whatcha think?

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 that I'd like to add TB3 to it so as to share peripherals. (I'm still trying to get my ASUS Z170 working with the EX3 and may have to burn the mod'd f/w on the EX3.)

These Gigabyte Titan Ridge card f/w mods are starting to confuse me WRT whose doing what with the f/w mods.
Our own firmware flashing escapades were inspired by that thread on MacRumors! The GC-Titan Ridge NVM 23 firmware posted here in our Repository may work nicely on the Mac Pro 5,1, but with the SSDT posted by DSM2 (post #725) on Mac Rumors.

A newer version of NVM 23 was posted in the same MacRumors thread (post #919) with the name TItanRidgeNVM23-E64fr.bin. This is the same file I modified using Elias64Fr's procedure and posted to our Repository. The nice thing is that it's being tested by MacRumors members on their Mac Pro 5,1 systems.

I believe the best result is obtained from Slot 4 on the Mac Pro.

I am ready @CaseySJ if you can help me.

Thanks again.
I am ready @CaseySJ
pls send to me hot plug SSDT and EFI folder for

After flashing the GC-Titan Ridge with NVM 23 from the Repository and installing it into your system (with pins 3 and 5 jumpered together), please download and run IORegistryExplorer and select File --> Save As... to save the IOReg file. Then post that file.

Pins 3 and 5 are on the J1 (5-pin) header on the GC-Titan Ridge. When you hold the card vertically with the PCIe pins pointing to the floor, then pin 3 is third from the bottom, and pin 5 is the topmost pin.

Hello @phrfpeixoto
I see so many people asking questions that have been answered before ... have you tried using the search function to
search within this thread? Or checking the index in post #1 to the wealth of guides and tips?

If you did, you would have found that Casey already wrote some guidelines for updating existing Catalina installations to 10.15.4. You can find it here.

Edit:
And I can't stress the importance enough: please make a full bootable backup of your system (and test if you can boot it!), as many people experience issues with the update. You can find a link to a guide for making a bootable backup in post #1 (Going the Extra Mile > Easy Bootable Backup).

Edit2:
Another valuable resource is the mini-guide to fresh installation of Catalina 10.15.4. It contains important and helpful information about Catalina 10.15.4. It is also recommended to activate Native NVRAM if you update to 10.15.4.

Lastly, several people have reported they have leftover "Install macOS ..." volumes after the update to 10.15.4. If you encounter that issue, read the solution here.

Vendor and Device names are cosmetic. There are, however, more meaningful differences in the preceding bytes...
