[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Question for @CaseySJ regarding the above issue. My Hackintosh was running perfect with full TB3 support for all the devices I've reported working. When trying to setup a particularly complex OBS setup which needed a plugin only available on Windows I decided to install Win 10 on a second NVME. I removed all mac drives as suggested and did a successful Win install. I installed the Blackmagic drivers for my UltraStudio Mini Recorder in Windows and got the OBS setup running.

After setting the boot drive to the UEFI mac drive and booting back into the Mac the TB3 ports were no longer working. What are the steps I should take to troubleshoot? There were no changes to the EFI folder and the ports just don't want to work on the mac side now.

Ok, replying to myself. After reading a bit more I think this might have been a "user error" with a "soft boot" into the Mac side from having been using the Windows side of things. I had not tried turning the power totally off at the PSU.

So, I shutdown and hit the switch on the PSU. Waited a bit and then booted into the Mac side. The TB3 ports were working again. So, with regards to the TB ports, do we need to fully shutdown and turn off power each time we switch between OSes?

Here's another hardware report for this board. I travel some times and have a MacBook laptop and wanted a second (portable) screen.

I ordered an AOC I1601FWUX which is a 15.6" USB-C external display which requires DisplayLink drivers. While it worked with my MacBook, it did not work with the TB3 ports on the Designare Z390. At least I couldn't get it to work. Of course, I wouldn't know how to troubleshoot it in order to see if I could get it to work.

I wasn't totally impressed with the panel as it was, but still wanted to hunt for something that would work with both my MacBook and the Designare.

I can honestly say I've never been one to try random brands I've never heard of, but I went for the Lepow 15.6" IPS. Verdict... This thing is awesome. The panel seems to be more crisp and it works using an HDMI port from my GPU. When I head out with my laptop I can use just the USB-C connection and it works great there too. For a savings of $30 over the AOC and something close to $100 versus the ASUS portable panel, this thing is a great piece of gear for those who travel or just want a bit of extra screen real estate. Nope, this is not an ad, just a fellow Hackintosher letting you know the above panel from AOC didn't work for me.

I'm using VirtualSMC and iMac Pro. I don't have access to the machine at the moment but can dump my EFI folder later.
That would be great for comparison! Why did you go for the iMac pro vs the iMac 19,1? What I read in the instructions, the iMac pro is only recommended for systems without iGPU and your processor has it. Not trying to argue, just trying to understand the reasoning! :)
Which RX 580 Model are you using?

I've encountered this issue several times when warm booting from a previous Windows boot. Often, however, I can fix the problem after logging into macOS by simply disconnecting and reconnecting the Thunderbolt cable from the device or from the back of the computer.

My mac is freezing one time by day. How to check what is the problem ? Is it because I activated Filevault ?

When he freezes, I need to restart.

DisplayPort tends to be the most "it just works" interface! So this is really strange.
  • What are the makes/models of the two monitors?
  • Are you using any adapters currently with the DVI connection, or are you using a straight DVI-to-DVI cable?
  • With DisplayPort, are you also using a straight DP-to-DP cable?
It is an LG 29EA93 and an Acer T272HULbmidpcz. I am using a DP to DP cable and both monitors work fine with DVI or HDMI of the RC 580 Pulse.

That's a USB 3.0 audio interface so let's start by examining the IOReg file as follows:
  • Plug the USB cable into the computer and power on the device.
  • Download and run IORegistryExplorer and just export the IOReg file by selecting File --> Save As....
  • Upload that file.
This will tell us whether or not the Madiface XT is connecting to a USB port. This is Step 1. Next step would be based on a review of the IOReg file.
I did that and here is the file. The device shows up here:

EDIT: Damn me! Suddenly it works ... I cannot even tell what helped ... I just restarted the PC a couple of times and did reinstall the driver/software by RME and suddenly it popped up! Seems to work perfectly. In case out won't be reliable, I will report it.

Catalina Update:

I have installed the latest GM version of Catalina!

My steps:
  • make a working CCC backup!
  • Update clover to the last stable version
  • Update alle Kext to the last stable versions
  • for now: install the developer profile [with developer account]
  • download Catalina
  • Install Catalina
  • wait +/- 40 minutes, it reboots 2 times

My USB, Disks and Wake/Sleep are working. Also Watch unlock and watch access (no password needed to install software)

I do not get Sidecar to work, it sees my iPad Pro (2018), I can connect but the screen keeps black.

(my Mac is configured as iMac Pro (2017))

Hmm, puzzling... This is happening on all blue, red, and yellow USB 3.x ports?

Ok, this is interesting, since I hadn't tried all of the ports.

Both Rear Black: "Not Charging" indicated on iPad
Both Rear Red: "Not Charging" indicated on iPad
Both Rear Yellow: Charging (lightning bolt on battery)
Both Rear Blue: Charging (lightning bolt on battery)

Both USB-A ports on my case (Plugged into MoBo Header): "Not Charging" indicated on iPad.

Additionally, even when charging, the System Information for USB only shows 500ma, which shouldn't be enough to charge an iPad Pro with the screen on. This is an example when the iPad is plugged into a Blue port, I get charging indicator on the iPad with screen on, and indeed the battery percentage does increase.

Hello
I followed your instructions to move Mojave to my other Nvme of 1TB. It works very well .But I can not access:
-On the boot BIOS menu pressing F8 or DEL or other
-To install W10, I will need it to choose the installation mode or can I boot by Clother.
-impossible to have Wifi / bluetooth with Apple Bcm94360cs Bcm94331cs Bluetooth (should I intervene somewhere, I don't know) she connected properly.
I searched for 2 hours but found nothing.(i lost myself):banghead:
Thanks for your help

Hi, this sounds as though the EFI partition on the new drive is not set up.
  1. Can you mount the EFI partition of the new drive(s)?
  2. If so, is there a full EFI/CLOVER folder?
