[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

The MG28U has three HDMI ports and one DisplayPort 1.2. Only HDMI-1 and DisplayPort are capable of 4K60.

Some suggestions:
  • From the monitor's on-board menu, go to System Setup and select All Reset. This will reset all settings to default values.
  • If Adaptive Sync is enabled in the monitor's on-board Image menu, disable it.
  • Also disable Game Plus.
  • In the System Setup menu, set DisplayPort Stream to 1.2 (not 1.1).
  • If you have a DisplayPort cable, also try connecting via that cable. The RX 580 has two DisplayPort outputs and two HDMI outputs.
Important:
  • Double check that you are using a certified HDMI 2.0 cable. Not all HDMI cables are certified for 2.0. HDMI 2.0 operates at higher frequencies and requires more robust cables.

I tried all the settings on the monitor and it was already on suggested settings. The cable is HDMI 2 as I used the same cable which came with Xbox one. Is there anything I can do in the macOS to force it to recognize 60 HZ?

Thanks for looking into this, I really appreciate it. As always you go above and beyond.
Computer is still soundly asleep. Will give it a rude awakening, update to Beta 7, and repeat.
Update: Bad news I'm afraid. When I woke up the Hackintosh I found that Catalina had triggered a reboot at some point and the system had rebooted into the default Mojave partition. Mojave then triggered sleep, and the system stayed asleep indefinitely under Mojave.

More bad news: My attempt to update Catalina from Beta 6 to Beta 7 failed. At the "Installing Catalina" window, the progress bar appeared, but never moved an inch. It may be necessary to perform a full clean install of Beta 7, or just wait for the formal release.

I can't seem to get continuity to work. Was fine in Mojave. I erased the apple.com.... files, signed out, killed process, validated serial #s, the whole 9 yards.

Is something up with Catalina?
I suggest that we avoid addressing issues with Catalina beta in this thread. Instead, let's wait for the formal release. It's better to debug Catalina bugs on real Macs.

Have you already tried pressing Option key in System Preferences --> Displays and manually selecting a resolution?

I would also suggest trying a DisplayPort connection because it also supports 4K60.

If anyone else has some suggestions please chime in.

I just followed the guide. So far everything that I have tested is working just fine (Bluetooth is via USB IOGear adapter). But worthy of note is that my Apollo Twin Duo Mk1 works with a Apple Thunderbolt TB2 to TB3 adapter.

I was totally expecting that it wouldn't work as it's a MK1, and so is supposed to be TB1 only. So that was a welcome surprise.

Has anyone else been able to get Mk1 working? I have the same setup, and it is not...
I suppose here I go to redo everything again lol. Encouraging that someone got it to work, so it must be possible somehow. You followed the guide exactly? What about changing the allocated memory amounts in the thunderbolt configuration? Did you increase those from default or not? And what firmware version are you on? F7?

I have another question: the audio is inverted, Mac OS believes that the rear audio output corresponds to the headphones and that the front output (which is the headphone output of the case, Define R6 USB-C) corresponds to the internal speaker output. Is there any way to restore the right order? Not very serious, just a little disturbing.

Regarding this, will I have trouble with a Radeon Vega 64 Frontier Edition 64? I'm also interested in the LG 34WK95U-W 5k2k monitor..
Or should I just go 4k? I do audio, so the extra real estate would do me good.. And then I wanted to run it with a larger, 4k TV ovver the monitor, hanging on the wall.

Thanks.

I use a LG 79 43-inch 4k monitor with Cubase Pro @ approx 90 cm since yesterday, and a comparable Philips 43-inch before that for 2 years. Works well for me. I can have the arrange page on top and the mixer at the bottom and work without zooming all the time.

It's just behind my near field speakers, otherwise it's an acoustic obstruction that will seriously distort your sound.

A word of warning:
Lots of people don't like it, because you need to move your head a bit. It's that big. And If you wear bifocal glasses(I do), it may not be ideal.

Also, make sure the monitor is not too high up, this will stress your neck and cause headaches.

Hi, I just got my hackintosh, Z390 Designare, running Mojave. I just had this one doubt about the TB2-TB3 Apple Converter. The Apollo website says that the Apple converter isn't recommended by them. Instead they recommend couple other converters. I'm Planning to run the same on WIN 10 system, just wanted to ask if you could help me out with confirming the working status of the converter for macOS & Windows.

Thanks.

Working very fine here since about a year. No issues whatsoever.

Have you already tried connecting your monitor to one of the 3 on-board video ports:
  • Thunderbolt port 1 (USB C). Just use a USB-C to DisplayPort cable.
  • Thunderbolt port 2 (USB C). Just use a USB-C to DisplayPort cable.
  • HDMI port.
We'll need to set Platform ID to 0x3E9B0007 and add framebuffer connector patches for HDMI.

Alternatively, have you tried replacing the Radeon VII with a different AMD GPU?

Just trying to determine whether the Radeon VII is the source of the problem.

My screen does not have USB C only HDMI. When I connect my screen to the onboard HDMI it seems to work. How could I keep the benefit of the graphic card and be connected to the onboard HDMI ? By "setting Platform ID to 0x3E9B0007 and add framebuffer connector patches for HDMI" ?

It is my only GPU unfortunately.
