[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I was just trying to disavow any responsibility for answering your post! :)

But I will boot up Catalina later this evening and check sleep behavior. Will let it sleep overnight and check it in the morning.

However, there have been several sleep related issues reported by users in just the past week with Mojave’s most recent supplemental update, so maybe there’s something there...
@byteminer,

Late last night I booted Catalina Public Beta 6, manually put it to sleep and left it there. It was still asleep in the morning so I decided to let it sleep all day. Will check it when I get home. If it's good, I'll update to Beta 7 and try the experiment again.

Thanks CaseySJ :thumbup:

Hi guys, I have 2x systems using Designare z390 (i5-9600k & i9-9900k) and Im verry happy with them! Yesterday I bought my first thunderbolt 3 das which is Lacie 2Big Dock thunderbolt 3 12tb edition! I can't wait to have it on my hands and test it on my systems (I will provide benchmarks through Blackmagic Disk Speed test in both raid0 and raid1). Main system (9900k) is connected with 2x monitors (Dell u2413 1920x1200 & Dell U2417h 1920x1080) calibrated in SRGB through i1 Display Pro calibration device with almost excellent results. Im planning to buy for my 2nd system (9600k) LG 34WK95U (5120x2160) and coonect it through tb3. I was wondering if I have any issues regarding to resolution cause I found on the net that with the previews model (Lg Ultrafine 5k tb3 display) there are a few issues cause Designare doesn't have onboard 2x display ports to fully recognize the 5k resolution. Do you have any clue if it's going to work connected to Sapphire Rx580 Pulse 8Gb w/o issues? It's an expensive monitor and Im trying to be sure before I buy. Last I want to buy 2x sets of apple keyboards and mouses (dark grey) and I would like to ask which controllers do I have to buy for my Designares. Im asking cause those peripherals are working through Bluetooth and I don't have support through Designare's onboard bluetooth/wifi controller. It's a little complicated for me to choose any controllers and I would like your help to suggest me a good solution with links if its allowed from the forum rules ofc!

Best Regards
@skroutz999,

Nice to hear from you again. I’ll provide my thoughts and hope others will provide additional feedback.
  • The LG 34WK95U will most likely see a reduced resolution of about 4096 x 2304 or something along those lines. Without two DP-In ports, this motherboard cannot send a full 5K framebuffer to the LG. The LG will scale the incoming framebuffer to fit its native resolution. In real world terms, the image quality will be a tiny bit worse, but only a tiny bit.
  • Regarding Bluetooth and Apple wireless keyboard and mouse, do you have the Fenvi FV-T919 on either of the two systems? The Fenvi is the only recommended WiFi/BT card for this system. Some users have reported they Apple Magic Mouse and Keyboard are recognized even in BIOS or Clover, but I’ve not verified this myself.

Regarding this, will I have trouble with a Radeon Vega 64 Frontier Edition 64? I'm also interested in the LG 34WK95U-W 5k2k monitor..
Or should I just go 4k? I do audio, so the extra real estate would do me good.. And then I wanted to run it with a larger, 4k TV ovver the monitor, hanging on the wall.

Thanks.

Because this monitor has DisplayPort 1.4, the recommendation is to connect a DisplayPort 1.4 cable directly between the Vega 64 and the monitor. No need to use Thunderbolt 3 if you want to use the full 5K x 2K native resolution.

Please clarify:
  • What is the model number of the Asus 4K monitor? I have the Asus Designo MX27UC 4K that works perfectly.
  • Are you saying that the monitor works via HDMI if you set the refresh rate to 30Hz in macOS?
  • But if you increase the refresh rate to 60Hz in macOS, then the monitor goes blank?

Hi CaseySJ,

-I have Asus MG28U 4k monitor.
- Monitor HDMI 1 port is enabled for 4K @60HZ and other ports I guess goes maximum 30HZ. If I connect RX580 to HDMI 1 port which is able to run at 60HZ, I get no signal message. But If I connect to to HDMI 2 port then I get the signal but it's restricted to max 30 HZ at 1920 x1080 HiDPi setting at Switchres. I once was able to unplug cable from HDMI2 port to HDMI1 port and was able to get 60 HZ but then I restarted and I again got no signal message. But this strategy is kind of hit and miss and unpractical. I hope I make sense.

Thanks for looking into this, I really appreciate it. As always you go above and beyond.

The MG28U has three HDMI ports and one DisplayPort 1.2. Only HDMI-1 and DisplayPort are capable of 4K60.

Some suggestions:
  • From the monitor's on-board menu, go to System Setup and select All Reset. This will reset all settings to default values.
  • If Adaptive Sync is enabled in the monitor's on-board Image menu, disable it.
  • Also disable Game Plus.
  • In the System Setup menu, set DisplayPort Stream to 1.2 (not 1.1).
  • If you have a DisplayPort cable, also try connecting via that cable. The RX 580 has two DisplayPort outputs and two HDMI outputs.
Important:
  • Double check that you are using a certified HDMI 2.0 cable. Not all HDMI cables are certified for 2.0. HDMI 2.0 operates at higher frequencies and requires more robust cables.

Computer is still soundly asleep. Will give it a rude awakening, update to Beta 7, and repeat.
