hung on login

What exactly do you mean by that?

Do you see the login screen, but cannot login?

Or don't you see the login screen at all?

If the latter is true, it smells like you could have a problem with your GPU.

Can you boot with "-x", and / or with "nv_disable"?

And, make sure you have a minimal config to start with. I.e. make sure you ONLY have devices attached that you absolutely need for booting, i.e. Mouse, GPU and Keyboard.

Disconnect EVERYTHING ELSE - no matter if PCI cards or USB devices - until you get a STABLE system, including sleep and PM. Disable ALL clover settings that are not absolutely necessary. Then, add devices / settings ONE BY ONE. By this way, you can much better evaluate what is going wrong, and believe me, it is still hard enough.

hi frontenddev,

everytime I finish the install (trying various changes each time)
when I reboot it goots straight to the apple logo then login screen (with glitchiness),
I enter password, then spinning wheel occurs forever...

I can't find a way to enter flags upon boot (only hard written into the code prior to boot)
I've used nv_disable=1, but not -x -v or any others manually entered as yet.
-x -v wouldn't make much difference would they? (I'll try them next time of course though)
isn't nv_disable=1, npci=0x2000, nvda_drv=1 more key to proper booting?

only have mouse/keyboard attached
when I tried the unibeast installs before using clover the gtx780ti would show up,
so I don't think it's that. I've tried installing the drivers during & after post installation instructions have been completed to the reboot stage.

I've popped in an Asus GTX 980 Strix I got a good deal on.

It only allows me to boot with CSM enabled - Anyone know why?

If I disable CSM, booting hangs with the VGA LED illuminated on the MoBo.

Seemed odd - My GTX 970 worked fine with CSM disabled.
Thoughts much appreciated!

Understand. Hmm, but could also be sth entirely different then. Fact is: you see the graphics, so your GPu is at least somewhat working.
I can't find a way to enter flags upon boot (only hard written into the code prior to boot)
Why? You should be able to override your config.plist settings using Clover, before actual boot of course.
-x -v wouldn't make much difference would they? (I'll try them next time of course though)
-v is only for displaying debug messages while booting. Still recommended so you can better see what happens, and where your machine hangs. (if it hangs before Login) -x however is sth entierely different. That means you boot only with a minimal set of kexts, (also known as "safe boot") so for example there are many drivers missing then (also the GPU driver). Not useful for daily work (limited and much slower system), but useful for debugging. Try it and see if you can log in then.
isn't nv_disable=1, npci=0x2000, nvda_drv=1 more key to proper booting?
You are mixing a lot of things up here. Please try to learn what all these settings actually mean. The only setting from above that you REALLY need to boot is npci=0x2000. And nv_disable=1 together with nvda_drv=1 simply makes no sense. Plus, at least with a NVIDIA driver install, nvda_drv=1 is set by the NVIDIA installer, and is set in NVRAM, so you can chnage drivers via the control panel. Therefore, nvda_drv=1 as a boot arg also makes not so much sense.
so I don't think it's that. I've tried installing the drivers during & after post installation instructions have been completed to the reboot stage.
I do not think that what you think might be actually the truth ;) Do you have a stable system? Apparently no, so try to sort out things the right way, i.e. eliminating every single potential source of your problem, and do things step by step.

thanks ill try.

I want to double check a couple things though:

1.as per the instructions, chameleon wizard is only open to get the serial? (nothing else done with it?)

2.add uuidgen number but wait until after install etc to get Ethernet number to input

3.install web drivers at point indicated before reboot making sure nv_disable=1 & -x -v is in the plist but not in conjunction with nvda_drv=1.

4.make NVidia web drivers active not native drivers in sys pref (do the drivers in fact take hold after install pre-boot? from what I recall I couldn't do this ill check this afternoon)

5.use OsxAptioFixDrv2 not OsxAptioFixDrv

6. do your suggestion:
To test native NVRAM support:
1) make sure EmuVariableUefi is NOT active
2) Enter in Terminal: sudo nvram test=test
3) reboot
4) Enter in Terminal: nvram -p
Then look for the entry "test" you created in step 2. Is it there? Great, you have native NVRAM support! Is it not? Well, you have to use EmuVariableUefi then.
(And to delete your test entry, just type "sudo nvram -d test")

7. multibeast: add only what shilohh directed. i.e. ALC 1150 (for R4BE), efi bootloader, usb3.0

8. complete DSDT with template from link for R4BE

9. double check everything's in the right place, and redundants deleted.

anything else?

Ok. Quick update. OMG I got it all working.
What did I do? I first tried the MultiBeast method which worked. I followed it to the letter.
Took me all less than 45min

Then i I thought hang on a sec. Let me retry that with the clover method. I successfully managed it also.

what was the culprit all this time? Well. The only thing I can think of is the fact that in the BIOS I DID enable CSM features rather than DISABLING it.

This is was the only difference. Now it all works.

Man the hours I spent on troubleshooting for this minor detail ...
All this time I had an issue with my video card I guess.

Peace

should I also enable?
from I read elsewhere I was lead to believe I should disable.
thanks.

found out how to enter the boot flags manually in the clover boot menu.
didn't make a difference whichever combination was used.

for my build, is there anything OUTSIDE THE PROCEDURE ON PAGE 1 that should be used?

R4BE, EVGA GTX 780 ti, U28D590D, 4x8GB 2133

im at my wits end. i see a few guys here with almost identical builds,
I'd appreciate some input from you if you can spare some time please?

Thanks!

wow, finally a successful boot post installation!

ran everything exact to spec,

minimal multibeast install
used the kext install shilohh uses
deleted usb kext from extensions folder
used R4BE.dsdt template
installed WebDriver-343.02.01f01 (didn't have to change any flags)

gtx 780 ti is coming up
the monitor model shows up
cpu listed at xeon (this matter?)

ONLY THING AT THE MOMENT IS:
resolution is stuck at 1080
how to change this to native resolution of the 4K monitor?

thanks!
(fingers crossed it holds)
