Nvidia 550Ti Sleep / Wake / Freeze Thread

Has anyone tried the Onyx 'fix', I mentioned it over in this thread, http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...ermi-freeze-back-latest-drivers-10-8-3-a.html where I managed to fix the random freezes on a 560ti after update to 10.8.3

I don't know how or why it worked, but by running the full maintenance schedule (Permissions/Scripts/Rebuild) , I haven't had any freezes for around 10 days now.
And others have reported some success with this method.

Maybe a long shot, but worth a try?

Hi!

I successfully found back OpenGL/CL acceleration on my 550 Ti after upgrading to 10.8.3.

I followed two posts about that the #1006 with the link to a vczilla quote and the following for getting the file v10.8.2-02.zip.

I don't know about sleep because I simply disabled it. :)

But at least I can work on my video recordings like I did with 10.8.2.

I have two Fermi based cards, the GT 430 and 550 Ti which were both affected in Mountain Lion. The 10.8.3 updated fixed my 430 perfectly. However for my 550 Ti I can still only boot in safe mode! Is this happening with anyone else?

Hi Guys!

Today i had a great idea and was lucky so far.

I'm trying right now an alternative Fix method for the random freezes on my Hackintosh with GTS 450 Graphic Card.

i use now a program called "Add Movie Wallpaper" (Size: 1.06 GB) App Store or (Google) can help you, instead of VLC Player.

It let's you, like the program name says, add a movie Wallpaper as Desktop Wallpaper.
This is good as the Graphic Card is always busy and no random freezes should happen then anymore.

The good thing is, the Wallpaper app runs on Login automatically plus it does only need half of resources then the VLC Player.

So let's see what i'm talking about, differences:

VLC Player uses resources:
From 3.1 CPU% Up to 4.9 CPU%
17 Threads

Add Movie Wallpaper uses resources:
From 2.2 CPU% Up to 2.4 CPU%
10 Threads

As you can see the "Add Movie Wallpaper" uses much less resources as the VLC Player does.

benefits of the "Add Movie Wallpaper"
- Wallpaper starts automatically on Startup (Login).
- Needs much less resources then VLC Player.
- No Audio Clicks because of Clips playing randomly (vlc Player), this has occurred on VLC Player before and it's not very optimal for People doing Music Stuff on Hackintosh's.

So i would say, go ahead and give a try if you want and let Us know how it works for you.

I'm testing this right now for 3Hours with no freeze. I will test this now and let you know in a few days how it worked and if the freezes are gone or not..

cheers

Im having the opposite results..in 10.8.2 no luck, now in 10.8.3, 550 working great!

You had upgraded from 10.8.2 to 10.8.3 or did you made a fresh install? You have installed any patches, or the 550 simply worked without the need to install something else?

Hmm, its very hard to remember, basically I had a great system running off the hd4000, tried the 550, then I screwed it all up, was having graphics coded beeps from the MoBo. I rebuilt the system, formatted the drive and tried again, got it to work with hd4000, but 550 was still doing the typical white screen after boot. (incidentally, i had full acceleration before i screwed it up but only with HDD, not SSD) So, I gave up and put the card up for sale.

Wasn't shifting it so one night I tried it one more time, you know how you do....and hallelujah-it worked straight out, no problems! and has continued to do so..

I had a few screen freezes which have (almost) gone since adding the fermi patch from MultiBeast (now its super rare).

Its running very well, doing everything I wanted it to do (it was 50 bucks) so I dont know..maybe there was some stray code in there but it works superbly for me...I can say that prior to it screwing up I had tried reinstalling, with zero effect. I dont know if there is much difference between makes, but mine is a Gainward, GTX 550ti.

Ok, I had installed 10.8.3 via combo update, but the installation can't complete because of an error. I tried it three times, always with the same error at the end of the installation process. Then I restarted, and the system cannot boot.
I tried to boot the system in safe mode, and it boots fine. In the system properties it said "version 10.8.3", so apparently the update is ok. But I tried to open some apps, and the apps closes almost instantly.
I formatted my disk, installed from scratch, updated to 10.8.3, and the same problem occurs. So, I had to install my TimeMachine copy from 10.8.2, and I'm using my system perfectly again with 10.8.2.

Resuming: I cannot use 10.8.3 for some unknown reason, and I will have to stick with 10.8.2 until 10.8.4 comes out.

Guys! Only to let you know.

After 4 Days of trying the "Add Movie Wallpaper" App, i had not one freeze in this time.

So i can confirm now that the random freezes are fixed! as long the "Add Movie Wallpaper" App is running.

For me this is the better solution then the VLC Player.

cheers

I have this issue done alot of differnt steps to stop it .. VLC seems to work but sucks to run all the time.

I did notice that VLC does this 4/21/13 2:22:04.082 PM VLC[359]: kIOPMAssertionTypePreventUserIdleDisplaySleep in console.
