[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Some (friendly) questions:
  • Are you far-sighted or near-sighted? Do you wear corrective lenses (contacts or eyeglasses)?
  • Are you able to clearly focus your eyes on small objects close to the eye?
  • Is the SOIC clip "swallowing" the Winbond chip?
  • Is the SOIC clip aligned properly to the 4 pins above and 4 pins below the chip package?
  • Is the PSU power switch flipped on?
  • Is the motherboard itself powered OFF? It must be powered off.
To confirm if SOIC clip is connected properly:
  • Flip PSU power switch OFF!
  • Connect pin 8 (3.3V power)
  • Do the LEDs on motherboard light up?

These are totally valid question and I do not take offense! I have a head mounted magnifying goggles.
  • Is the SOIC clip aligned properly to the 4 pins above and 4 pins below the chip package?

I have the motherboard out of the case and only connected to a power supply so no power switch to turn on or off.

  • Connect pin 8 (3.3V power) - I have nothing connected to pin8 because the May2020 update says ( if I am reading it correctly) says 3v3 Power to pin 7 and the second 3v3 power to Pin 3

when i do connect 3v3 to pin 8 instead of pin 7 and the power supply to the MB is disconnected the MB The board does not light up yellow.

Hi Casey,

I'm needing help with all of my USB ports shutting off after about an hour or less of no activity. I followed your Mini-Guide for a fresh 10.15.4 install to a T. I removed the two limit port patches from config after thinking that might fix the issue, but nothing. Updated all kexts to the most recent versions I could find. Clover is at r5118.

A number of people have reported problems after updating UsbInjectAll.kext to V 0.7.5. Try with the older 0.7.3 version, available in the downloads section of this site.

is this efi correct ?
Please backup your EFI and try the next one attached. Also note:
  • Latest UAD firmware must be installed on the Apollo
  • Latest drivers must be installed in macOS

This looks correct, but with Pin 8 connected (and PSU turned off) I'm wondering why LEDs are not shining? Try gently lifting and reseating the SOIC clip with Pin 8 (and PSU off) to see if LEDs will turn on. Don't force it, however. If they don't turn on, just take a break and let me know.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've been letting it sit since about 0820 after trying fix #1, so here in about 10 minutes or so I'll see if they work. If not, I'll roll back to the kext you suggested and test again. On that note, how can I check to see which version of the kext I have? Obviously I'm using the May 2020 Update folder from here.
