[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi @CaseySJ, I am wondering if you'd be able to help me or point me to right direction with my recent issue.
I followed your guide a while ago to install my first hackintosh and everything was going smoothly. Every OS X update went fine, and every clover of kext update was fine too.
Until yesterday. I believe I only updated VirtualSMC to latest 1.1.2 and Clover to latest 5108. I did not reboot straight away. I shut the PC down yesterday and started it up today but was not able to bot in.
I tried restoring the Clover back to 5107 and also restored Virtual SMC back to 1.1.1, which was working fine before.
But with no luck.
To restore the clover I copied /Volumes/OS X SDD/EFI-Backups/r5107/2020-04-03-19h49/EFI to the EFI volume on Windows. I compared the the folders using Beyond Compare and ensured that they are identical and there are no drivers missing or there are no extra drivers. I was wondering if that was enough to restore the old clover?

The firxt error I get is EB Err(0xE) 0 GV boot-signature

Hello everybody,

I just upgraded my audio system with the most powerful machine I could wish for. I pretty strictly followed this build guide running Mojave and so far almost everything is running very smooth and without issues.

I am only struggling with two programs:

Radio Silence (Firewall):

Stops apps phoning home/ save bandwidth -> like "LittleSnitch"

Problem: No outgoing connections are blocked

Tested: Block Outgoing/Incoming Connections of Safari
(works on MacBook Pro, unlimited amount of Devices possible)

Kaspersky Internet Security is also installed. But that leads to no issues on the MacBook Pro

IPVanish (VPN):

Problem: No connection to Server possible

Tested: I can log in into the service sucesfully but I can't dial onto a Server.
(Works On MacBook Pro, up to 10 Devices possible)

Any Ideas for a fix ?

Best regards
Jack

Hello @hitch21,

Which specific version of MacOS are you running?

If it’s 10.15.4, please try Plan C (link is in one of my posts from yesterday).

Hi,@CaseySJ
I found the original firmware of GC-AR-V2, and I modified the firmware according to the plist patch of Osy86. Here are some questions:
1. Only the first dp-in works normally
2. Whether plugged into the first port or the second port, the device only appears under DSB1
3. The USB control bus of LG display does not work, there is no display adjustment and audio

Hello @Mace,

These are exactly the problems we see with flashed firmware on Thunderbolt add-in-cards. Once we learn these limitations and workarounds, we end up adjusting to them. Hopefully a better modified version of firmware will come out soon.

This is why I appreciate the Designare Z390 even more — because the flashed firmware for its on-board controller is just about perfect.

Dear CaseySJ,

I really appreciate your guide and I complete succesfully following your excellent instructions.
Really appreciate.
Glad to hear it and welcome to the forum!

@CaseySJ Just received my clip.
My idea was to begin with the last supplemental guide. Is that a good idea? (With the psu connected and the. VCC from gpio disconnected?

I have to find the chip first. Haha

Hello Jack,

Are you testing these apps via WiFi or wired Ethernet? If over wired, are you using the i211 or i213 Ethernet port? Please refer to large rear IO panel diagram in Post #1.

The driver for i211 might not be as robust as the native MacOS driver for i213, so try connecting Ethernet to i213.

@CaseySJ Yes, it is the latest Catalina 10.15.4. I see if I can get Plan C working.
Are you able to tell from the logs what is actually wrong and why Clover update to 5108 broke it?

Yes exactly. Try to obtain 3 or 4 consecutive reads. Save each into a different file. Then compare checksums with “shasum”. But we cannot stop there. If checksums March, we must type “strings <filename>” to ensure that the file is not empty.

If this succeeds then you’re ready to flash the modified firmware. All disclaimers apply.

The Winbond chip is located on the back of the motherboard. Inscription on the chip says “Winbond” followed by “W25Q80DV...”. Please note the location of recessed dot that indicates Pin 1.

As is often the case, these logs don’t help much. But they do let us discount a few potential issues.
