[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

- Gigabyte in Windows has an SIV app which lets you control fans is there anything like that for Hackintosh or Mac in general?
iStat Menus with VirtualSMC gives access to a fan controller menu but at this time it only reports one fan location.

Hi everyone, I've been enjoying a very stable system (still Mojave) but I just got a Stream Deck and it's not working properly. When I set the keys to work as keystrokes it behaves erratically, some keys would work just once, some would remain pressed.

I've used my CCC backup drive to boot from a real Mac (mini) and from that backup the Stream Deck works perfectly so I must have something wrong with the USB configuration? I followed the guide and I'm using the following SSDT:

I modified the Refine R6 V3 to change the USB on the motherboard as internal as I have a 2 port usb hub connected, where the bluetooth card connects. I have a Refine R6 case.

Attached is the IOReg file, what could be the problem?
Many thanks

I'd like to add a third bootable NVMe PCI-e drive. Does anyone have experience with a bootable PCI-e to NVMe adapter?
Thanks.

I'm glad (not really, but at least I know it's not just mine) that the GPU in stat is blank as well as the fan status's. Can you validate one thing for me also. Use the i211 port top port closes to wireless connectors. Do you get both up and down speeds in iStat? Mine will only display upload during transfer.

@MacMarshall, thanks. I'll look into the tool.

I've had success with Thunderbolt 2 connecting devices like the UAD Apollo 8 Quad and the BlackMagic Design MultiDock 2. But hotswap does not work for the Thunderbolt 2 UAD Apollo 8. I've read that it's because of the absence of Thunderbolt Node implementation.

I can confirm that hotswap with the devices you mention UAD Apollo 8 and Twin will work under windows 10 on this board, so we can rule out the motherboard and the devices.

Which version of MacOS have you tried with this issue ?

EDIT: I also tested with a real mac running MacOS Sierra and hot swap was fine

Mine is this one: Syba SD-PEX30009 which worked on my Z390 build without having to install drivers via Windows 10 this time. Maybe the card was activated from when it was in the Z370. (I'm currently locked out of Windows because I changed the MOBO and the chip.) If you get this exact FW card and you need to install the driver from the mini-cd via Windows 10, you might want to get that taken care of before Windows 7 support shuts off, in case the driver won't load after January 14, 2020. I've attached a .zip of the Win 7 64 bit driver in case you yoots don't have a tray-loading DVD/CD drive with the accommodation for a Mini-CD.

Hi Hackers, I have a couple of queries would appreciate help.

1. What is the best method of a dual boot system Windows and macOS (I have read a number of methods)
2. How do you control the BIOS for dual boot, I am going to assume the BIOS for windows and macOS are not the same ?

Whats the best storage file format so that both macOS and Windows can read and write from it.

Many Thanks.

Install Windows as normal (usually best to remove your intended macOS drive before installation) and then put your second drive back and install macOS. You can use Clover to boot your Windows partition. I usually set a timeout of 10 seconds so that I can easily select between both.

2. How do you control the bios for dual boot, I am going to assume the BIOS for windows and macOS are not the same ?

Settings used for both are the same. Unless you really need Vt-d (likely not), the BIOS/UEFI settings will work on both if you're using the settings as per the initial guide.

In my opinion, I would go with NTFS and then just install a NTFS driver from Paragon Software or an alternative in macOS.

If you want, you can do it the other way around by installing an HFS+ driver in Windows and using the native HFS+ format in macOS. I wouldn't do APFS since your only option would be the Paragon Software plugin in Windows and it's also less mature than equivalent HFS+ drivers.

My reasoning behind formatting it as NTFS is that generally you would consider your Windows installation to be more 'stable' than your Hackintosh installation and IMO it's important to have access to tools like chkdsk and such in the native OS as needed. In my opinion, HFS+ doesn't feel as robust as NTFS. Linus Torvalds (creator of the Linux kernel) has even gone as far as saying (he's somewhat…opinionated) that it's the worst filesystem still in use today.

Some people will say you can use ExFAT, but it's not a journalling file system so it's more prone to data corruption in the event of a crash or power outage. It also tends to be not be very space efficient.
