Should I order 2 x 8GB and test?
Here's the ram kit that I recommend. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IV19HZE/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

The manufacturer has verified it works with all the Dell 7020/9020 models we utilize in this thread.

Am I facing a bad memory slot on the motherboard? I really would like 16GB in this machine (maybe 32 some day). Should I order 2 x 8GB and test? Anyone else run into this type of error on either a 7020 or 9020?
Now you have me worried. I ordered 32 gigs for my machine (yet to arrive).
I'll let you know what I find. Where do I find MemTest, and does it run under Win or Mac or both?

memtest86 can be found at https://www.memtest86.com. There is a free version. Simple to create a UEIF bootable thumb drive.

If you got a compatible 4 x 8GB kit from either Samsung or Hynix (Timetec) it should be no problem.
1600 MHz CL11 unbuffered non-ECC ram is what you need.

No matter what I do, I can’t run Windows on my Optimac. I cant even start the boot disk. I installed Catalina first and then created a bootable USB with unet and bootcamp. Both don't work. Am I missing a key element?

Is the CL my problem? I bought G.Skill Ripjaws matched set and it is CL9-9-9-24 1.5v.

Boot camp is completely unnecessary. Remember that this is PC hardware designed to run Windows and not Mac hardware, even though they are both Intel based. Use a standard Windows media creation tool usb. When you install Windows, have the macOS drive disconnected or it will get messed up.

I used a 2 x 4GB kit of that ram in my Gigabyte Haswell system. It was really designed for Sandy Bridge/ Ivy Bridge systems and not Q/Z87 chipset systems. One of those two DIMMs has already failed on me. I have the exact same kit in a Z68 system and they work perfectly for the last 5 or so years. Stay with the Samsung or Hynix (Timetec) 1600 CL11 ram in these Q87 chipset Dells. It's what shipped in them originally. Prices are low enough to make them a good investment. Just a few years ago I remember paying well over 100 USD for a 2 x 8GB 1600 MHz ram kit. We're lucky that the price gouging and collusion by the ram makers was stopped.
