I've always wanted to build a Hackintosh because of two reasons: the price of regular Mac desktops and my fascination of tinkering with electronics. After messing around with an old computer a friend gave me, I managed to hackintosh it, but because of its age, many problems arose such as random freezes or audio loss. After that I decided to get the proper parts to build a fully functional machine that ran OS X. The Processor and the Motherboard I chose beforehand, the other parts being purely chosen by price from a set of companies I trusted. As always there are some bugs such as random failed boots (which are fixed by a restart), rare freezes, and occasion audio loss after waking up from sleep.

Installation Notes:

In the BIOS, the only option I had to change was the safe boot mode, changing it from Windows to other OS (don't have a picture right now, but will soon). I used the SSD as my boot drive for faster boot times. To get into the installer I had to use -x, but for everything else I just used -v for verbose mode to see if anything went wrong.

MultiBeast Settings

This was one of the simplest parts as this board doesn't need a DSDT so using DSDT free in MultiBeast was almost enough.

Question... I am using the same build however when I try to boot I get to this line in verbose mode: Stuck:[IOBluetoothHCIController[start]completed. I know that I had to use VGA, however I will be using HDMI soon. Will that change anything?

Hi NinjaWizardMan,

nice to see your build went smooth. I'm using the same CPU on a different board and have some questions regarding your build.

Firstly, you are using the "Generate CPU States" option - what multipliers do you observe? I am using the iMac 13,1 system definition and get 8 and 35-39. Trying to figure out if it's worth using Generate CPU States. My CPU is also listed as "3,9 GHz Intel Core i5", while yours shows 3,5 GHz.

Secondly, does Airplay mirroring work with your build? I'm trying to get it working but had no success until now.

Cheers!

I had boot up problems while using VGA, but switching to DVI fixed it. I can't say for certain it will work with HDMI (and I can't test at the moment) but it should work.

I'm getting 3.5GHz plus turbo boost when needed. I would enable Generate CPU States as does not affect anything else (to my knowledge) and it helps with clock speeds. The 3.9GHz is the Processor max turbo speed. For the airplay problem, try using IGPEnabler=Yes flag especially if you're using a series 600/700 Nvidia card. I have not tested that out but I have read about boot flags and their respective uses.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I had a old ADC Cinema Display with the dvi converter, I ended up buying the apple hdmi to dvi converter. It worked, now the only problem I have to fix is when I wake the system from sleep the sound doesn't work. But this build is pretty fast overall!
