[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

By the way, which device path properties are you injecting via this method? Based on the quoted/linked article below, it seems some properties cannot be obtained any other way except through this method, such as ThunderboltDROM. But our recent tests show that when TNODE/TBUS appear, the Thunderbolt DROM we inject through Clover is in fact used...

Currently I use Clover method inject for simplifying properties modifications.. BUT the other method which consist in writing all properties on native NVRAM is also operate.
On this article, I think there is partial informations,
What I understand : For ThunderboltDROM on rMac, parameter is empty on Thunderbolt firmware (like we can see on Mac-xx.bin firmware) and Apple use a custom protocol to make it (an EFI freeform file with GUID 5E7BE016-33CF-2D42-8758-C69FA5CDBB2F contain Thunderbolt DROM base depending on Mac model and complete it with ThunderboltSwitchUID .. and probably other unknown data ..

BUT...

I don't think the system is truly and completely hanged. Instead:
  • The GUI hangs. No mouse movement. No keyboard input. Nothing on the GUI changes (e.g. time/clock on menu bar does not change).
  • Then if I unplug the Thunderbolt device and do a hard-reboot, I see ACPILogs corresponding to that unplug -- even though GUI was frozen.
  • So internal low-level (interrupt-driven) tasks still seem to be running.
  • I will re-check this as well by doing multiple plug-unplug-plug-unplug and then checking the ACPIDebug log after hard reboot.

When I ran CaseySJ's earlier 3 Stage test -- which I reported earlier -- when I removed the TB3 SSD in Stage 2 the GUI was frozen as predicted. However, at that point the disk activity light was flashing. Some tasks were apparently continuing to run.

@Elias64Fr,

Test:
  • Connect USB 3.1 Gen 1 device
  • Thunderbolt BIOS parameters modified
  • Using attached TbtOnPch
  • Using attached SSDT-UIAC... which adds HS08 and HS13
Result:

USB 3.1 Gen 1 device fully operational. Connected before booting. Hot plug or unplug causes system hang. Disk icon appears on desktop. Can read and write files.

hello again, I came across a problem yesterday where the progress bar gets stuck one third of the way after booting from the Catalina usb drive. This is a fresh install to Catalina. I've managed to record the codes and attach a few snaps where I think the problem(s) might be. There are a number of 'failed to's and 'couldn't's so I presume I'll need to do some problem solving here. I'll try and dig deeper but please let me know if you see anything in the codes. Thank you

Is there a CPU overload with rising fan speed or something like that ?

In my case the CPU/fans remain very quiet.
  • I have three PWM (4-pin) fans connected to three motherboard headers.
    • One is BeQuiet! low-noise fan.
    • Two are Noctua low-noise fans.
  • During BIOS/Clover, the three fans are spinning at high RPM (more noise).
  • But as soon as macOS boots up, all three fan RPMs are reduced and are nearly silent.
  • So macOS is controlling the fans...
    • Latest VirtualSMC inserts IOReg entries for fans.

Interresting ! System hang with only XHC2 and Hot-plugging ! Some problem with Hotplug ! Could you temporarily remove _E17 from SSDT, boot on same set-up .. We normally disable hot plug

AND another test with NO devices connected, and verify Power state on XHC2 controller :

hello again, I came across a problem yesterday where the progress bar gets stuck one third of the way after booting from the Catalina usb drive. Thank you
It seem that there is some problem with com.apple.driver.X86PlatformShim included on CPU0 and related to CPU plugin-type for CPU PM

Two Test Conditions:

1. With _E17 still present (same as before).
IMG_0276.JPG IMG_0277.JPG

2. With _E17 empty (method still present, but calls to AMPE and UMPE removed).
  • Booted with USB 3.1 Gen 1 flash disk and Apple TB3 GigE adapter both connected before boot.
  • Both devices disabled after booting.
  • Then hot-unplugged the GigE adapter. No hang!
  • Suddenly USB 3.1 Gen 1 flash disk mounted and works fully!
  • Then hot-plugged the GigE adapter. No hang!
  • But USB 3.1 Gen 1 flash disk unmounted after 5-10 seconds and notification appeared: "Disk Not Ejected Properly"
  • Then hot-unplugged the GigE adapter. No hang!
  • Now USB 3.1 Gen 1 flash disk reappeared! And still works.
  • (But GigE device does not work.)

Update:
  • Have to stop here now. Can continue this evening.
  • Will get USB Power State of XHC2 in the evening.

yeah, you will want to disable CFG-Lock for openCore too.
If you have a nvram.plist file you probably either still have the old rc scripts running or OpenCores LogoutHook

Just mount your EFI volume, remove the EFI folder containing OpenCore, and reinstall Clover.
If you have LogoutHook running you will want to get rid of that too.

You dont need to reinstall macOS.
When I am playing around with Boot Loaders, I like to install them to USB flash drives and make sure I can boot from them. Once I know that boots OK, I will copy the EFI folder from the flash drive to the EFI volume on my main boot drive.
I am booting OC and F9b without setting CFG-Lock and NVRAM seems to work fine. Is that unexpected?
