[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@DarrenM I just remembered mine crashes if I unplug (on board or rx580) as well. Is this normal or fixable?

GC-ALPINE RIDGE is not listed as compatible with any Z390 motherboards so you might not be able to use the non-display features of the Thunderbolt display.
AAARRRRGGGGGGGGHHHH, damn!!!!. Then I will have to cancel the order until the Titan Ridge comes back to stock in Amazon.es, otherwise I won't be able to properly try it out. This is driving me nuts haha.

Okay then, I guess I will wait until after my holidays unless the Titan Ridge comes back on stock very soon.

I'm having a hard time finding that USB header female (on both sides) that the Titan Ridge uses on Amazon :/

The USB header cable comes in the box so no worries. The cable in question might be this one:

@CaseySJ thanks! I confused "What comes in the box" between Alpine and Titan and thought it was missing.

Looks like the cable is 9 pin to 9 pin female. Photo below taken from the Titan Ridge manual

@CaseySJ I've been looking through an IOreg of a 19,1 and noticed this difference. Is it worth changing the names in a patch or is this just the sort of cosmetic nonsense I'm always getting wrapped up in :)?

Specifically looking boot-ec vs io-apic@...

This log is not conclusive. The last line "Service did not exit 5 seconds after SIGTERM. Sending SIGKILL" sounds bad, but can be quite benign. It just means that the service did not respond within 5 seconds to an interruptible process-termination signal (SIGTERM), so the system issued an uninterruptible or force-kill (SIGKILL) signal instead.

EC and APIC are very different things:
Under boot-ec (or more typically just EC) we expect one or both of the following:
  • AppleACPIEC
    • For managing the EC device
  • AppleBusPowerController
    • For controlling USB power, particularly useful for high-current devices
So there's no issue with the configuration in those screenshots.
