That is for desktops. Use a valid mobile ig-platform-id as stated previously.

You're using Clover. This is an option in config.plist. Refer to the Clover Wiki or use Clover Configurator.

I replaced the value within the config.plist file on the EFI/clover section of the drive that now seems to be working and laptop boots without external monitor plugged in!. The menu bar to the left seems washed out though.

Not sure what you mean by "washed out". Sounds like a hardware problem...

Looks more like a "glitch" than "washed out." Try setting the resolution of the bootloader to the native resolution of your built-in display. It is an option in config.plist. Refer to the Clover wiki or use Clover Configurator.
