Awesome!, It has been months since i could not enable the sound back in Catalina, for me it only worked until i added an extra activity, i did steps 1-4, then i had to mount the EFI (using the EFI mounter available here), and place also the 3 files (AppleALC.kext, AppleHDA.kext, Lilu.kext) on the path EFI/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other. then i continued steps 5-7. Literaly only when following this sequence it worked!View attachment 455459

Hello can you provide your EFI cause I'm struggling to get the sound to work on my GA-Z97X-UD3H

Can't get sound to work (falls within ALC255)

This is on a dell optiplex 7050 micro (core i5 6600T)

Attached is my kexts and plist.

I have tried re-building cache and get the following:

I have tried starting with boot options layout-id=3 (then 13,17,18,27, 28 and 99) no luck.

ANy help is appreciated. I am guessing rebuilding the cache didn't work and hence the rest isn't working.

I am by no means an expert, but have had my own trials and tribulations with getting audio to work.

All those "errors" are expected. You will get those when there are kexts that are not signed by Apple or that have been modified. You do see that they each say "allowed", so even though they have an invalid signature, they are still loading.

Now, as to why you don't have audio is anyone's guess. You could look in System Report / Extensions and see if AppleHDA.kext is showing that it is actually loaded.

No, look in About this Mac (under the Apple menu), then click the System Report button, and then look down under software (I think) and there is an Extensions. It takes a minute to generate the list, but look for AppleHDA and see if it says "Loaded=Yes"

I would look at the location that the Extensions report says that AppleHDA is located. You said it wasn't in S/L/E, which is where it SHOULD be. Find it and delete it. Using the Catalina installer you used, you can extract the native AppleHDA.kext as a file and copy to S/L/E and then redo your kext cache fix commands. Reboot and see if AppleHDA loads.

I had an issue with my Dell desktop where AppleHDA would not load and it was as easy as enabling a Clover option (look a few posts back at post #61). Enable FixHPET and suddenly my audio was working.

still no luck. But thanks for the help.

I have manually copied AppleHDA, AppleALC and Lilu to S/L/E and ran the command line scripts with permission error messages after cache rebuild.

Sound is still not working.

Probably need an expert skills with why and how to make it happen.
