<< Solved >> Catalina easy update and sound fix

Thank you so much. worked like a charm for ALC1150. I used Hackintool to install those kexts in /Library/Extensions/

Note: I just updated to 10.15.13, upgraded to the latest AppleALC (1.4.6), moved ALL my kexts over to /EFI/.../Clover/kexts/other/ ( including AppleHDA ). Ran the upgraded from Software Update, once it finished and I logged in I had no sound. Moved back the vanilla AppleHDA into /L/E/, clear kext cache and rebooted, sound is back!

This does not work for me. The issue is that AppleHDA.kext will not load. Even using vanilla AppleHDA.kext in /L/E, it still shows as not loaded.

Audio worked perfectly in Mojave. Once updated to Catalina, AppleHDA.kext would not load and no audio devices are listed.

Any other ideas? I've been fighting this for a while. Latest Lilu and AppleALC tried in both /L/E and in EFI/Clover/kexts/Other.

Using a USB DAC for now (which works perfectly), but would be nice to get onboard audio working again.

Try this:
Use Hackintool and install AppleALC, Lilu, WhateverGreen into /L/E. If it's not clear, you have to read the post "An iDiot's Guide To Lilu and its Plug-in's". Hopefully it will help for you.

As I stated in my post, I have tried AppleALC and Lilu (and I do have WEG also) in /L/E, and it didn't work. Are you saying that using Hackintool does something different? It doesn't seem to matter where those kexts are, AppleHDA.kext (an Apple system kext) does not load. AppleALC loads fine, either in /L/E or EFI.

Which version of kexts do you use? Mine are Lilu 1.4.1, AppleALC 1.4.6 and WEG 1.3.6 works fine for me. I've been installed this kexts using Hackintool. And my config.plist file can be useful for you. See attached...

I'm sure it's not anything to do with versions of the Lilu/WEG/AppleALC as I've currently got the latest, and have had earlier versions since being on Catalina, and it still didn't work.

I know it should work...I know that AppleHDA.kext should be loading, but it isn't. I'm not even sure that AppleHDA is dependent on Lilu/WEG/AppleALC is it? Shouldn't it load on it's own as it's an Apple system kext?

If I could see WHY AppleHDA isn't starting, that would help, but not sure where to look.

My system is not usable anymore now  I tried as described but when I want to click on the user to enter my password and sign in to macOS the loading symbole shows up and is not disappearing anymore. Because safemode was not working I decided to give macOS a fresh install but any suggestions why that happend?

Awesome!, It has been months since i could not enable the sound back in Catalina, for me it only worked until i added an extra activity, i did steps 1-4, then i had to mount the EFI (using the EFI mounter available here), and place also the 3 files (AppleALC.kext, AppleHDA.kext, Lilu.kext) on the path EFI/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other. then i continued steps 5-7. Literaly only when following this sequence it worked!
