Hello friends. I'm having trouble with the StarTech external enclosure. I keep getting errors while formatting. I have posted a screenshot of this and the error detail in text below. At first the enclosure lights up as if the disk is being used, but after a minute the light goes off and the formatting window in Disk Utility seems to hang. Left long enough, I see the following errors. I would love to hear from anyone else that encountered this, and whether they got their enclosure working.
Format/Erase Detail:
Unmounting disk
Creating the partition map
Waiting for partitions to activate
Formatting disk2s2 as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with name Untitled
newfs_hfs: WriteBuffer: pwrite(3, 0x101b08000, 1048576, 52432896): Resource busy
newfs_hfs: write (sector 102408): Invalid argument
Mounting disk
Could not mount disk2s2 after erase
File system formatter failed.
Operation failed…
Other detail:
Update:
I find that I am able to format disks correctly with USB 3.0 ports, but not the USB 3.1 ports. I am using an Z170MX-Gaming 5 motherboard.
