GA-Z77-DS3H: System Freeze on File Transfers

Thank you! The 1.2.3 driver is apparently much more stable.

I had to snag a copy of the official 10.8.3 IONetworkingFamily.kext from another machine to make my install Kosher-ish (apparently, removing the copy placed by Multibeast removes a dependency!). I added the 1.2.3 in addition to that and all seems well now.

I have Server running on this box and it was only occasionally that it would cause issues, but TimeMachine backups were sufficient to cause the network glitch to KP my box.

Is the 1.2.3 driver mentioned below in Multibeast 5.3.1? I just installed a ML 10.8.4 build yesterday using Unibeast 1.7.0 and Multibeast 5.3.1, selecting the Atheros Driver, but don't remember if that is 1.2.3 or not. If it's not included, what is the best way to get that driver installed? Fairly n00b to all this, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

No. Multibeast doesn't include this kext.

Thank you, Epal. I think this driver is more stable than the driver in Multibeast 5.3.1.

Hey guys,

Finally had to to mess with my Hackintosh now that I sold my MacBook Air ;)

I just reinstalled 10.8.4 today and noticed it was crashing as before, and to my amazement someone had posted in my thread here - I'm looking at you epal! Thank you!

I recompiled the 1.2.3 Atheros driver for 10.8. Here's a link: http://mu.ms/f/dc.zip for those of you who can't bother to do this yourself. I haven't tested it a lot yet - I'll post if it ever crashes again.

---

Here's a little guide for those of you that are stuck with the Multibeast driver:

Step 1: Remove old driver. Press Cmd+Space, Enter Terminal, press Enter, paste this, press enter:

Code:
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ALXEthernet.kext

Then enter your Mac password. After this, restart. You will have no internet.

Step 2: Download the above file (You should have downloaded this before this step!). Do so AtherosL1cEthernet.kext is on the desktop:

ec.png

Step 3: Run Kextbeast. You can download it here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=3

Step 4: Reboot. You should be able to check if the kext is in use by using this command:

Code:
sudo kextstat

You can verify that it's working if you have internet and the output includes your Kext:

Just a mirror of the file in case the third party link ever goes dead.
Good job btw (Y) :)

Hi!

Since I have networks freezes on large file transfers on my Z77-DS3H v1.1, I tried what was mentioned above on my 10.8.3. But I could not find a way to have the the driver loaded automatically after a boot.
I also had to clean the kext cache in order to have the old driver not loaded anymore.
I tried to load manually AtherosL1cEthernet after boot and even in that case the network does not work.

Anyone has an idea of what I could be missing?

Can I just say thank you to those who discovered / worked on this driver.

My system was hanging occassionally whilst transfering largeish files over the network, and since installing 1.2.3 it's been nice and stable.

Thank you.

Did you try AirDrop ?

I've just tried enabling AirDrop and it's just kills the network connection. No big loss for me as I don't use it, but it's a pity it doesn't work.

When I install the 1.2.3 Atheros Ethernet kext it always shows "not connected" in my network settings.
