[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi Fellow Hackintoshers!

I have recently upgraded from a Big Sur install ( running for quite some time with no problems ) to a fresh Monterey install due to an hard disk failure.

I have used HackinDROM to generate my EFI, as i have the Z390 Designare and a Fenvi T919 BT/Wireless card.

Everything is running perfectly except i am having random shutdown/restarts and Crashes.

I have tried changing my graphics card but the same problem exists. I am sure it is Graphics related from what i can divulge from the error logs but i am far from an expert and need help.

HackinDROM v2.1.1
Opencore v0.7.9

System Specs:
Gigabyte Z390 Designare
Intel i7 9700
WD Black SN750 SE 1TB
96GB DDR 4 Ram ( 2x32, 2x16 )
Fenvi T919 BT/Wireless card
Radeon RX580

Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong, or how i can troubleshoot this?

Regards
Stoneroad
Hello @StoneRoad,

When you first installed a fresh copy of Monterey, was the system stable? In other words, are the random shutdowns, restarts and crashes occurring after installing various third-party applications? If so, are all those applications and drivers compatible with Monterey?

Yes, I updated with latest HackinDROM. I used update button - no errors during update - something I've not really done before, usually went in the EFI manually
HackinDROM saves the entire previous EFI folder in a ZIP file. If you're unable to boot from the internal NVMe SSD, simply boot from your bootable backup disk or from a USB flash disk that contains a working EFI folder. Then it's possible to restore the previous EFI folder from the ZIP file.

Hi CaseySJ,

Upon my initial installation, I installed my webcam (Elgato Facecam), OBS and teams, as I use these on my MacBook Pro which is also has Monterey and are essential for me.

So I can only presume the issue was there from the beginning. Although the crashes seem much more often when running OBS, which points me to thinking Graphics related. I do notice some glitches in my camera feed occasionally.

Do you think i should do a fresh install? Remove these applications? Or is there anything else i could do to pinpoint the problem?

I have noticed my onboard graphics is not available, where it was previously in Big Sur, it is enabled in the BIOS. I am guessing I need to add a Kext for that. But I want to get things stable first.

I bought a MacBook Pro and wanted to save time by using migration assistant. Is it possible to connect my existing Z390 hack via TH3 in Target Disk Mode to the new M1 MacBook Pro to do this?
We cannot set a Hackintosh into Target Disk Mode, but we can remove and mount the Hackintosh’s macOS SSD into an external enclosure and connect the enclosure to the M1 MacBook Pro. Then Migration Assistant will do the rest.

It would be good to remove those apps first. If that doesn’t help, then a clean install would be justified. If a completely clean macOS installation is unstable, then it gives us a direction for troubleshooting.

Ok, that sounds like a plan :D

Could you recommend any software to put some load on the system that should not cause a system crash?

Thanks for your help.

Not by Thunderbolt, but you may try with Ethernet or WiFi.

Hello all!

I updated my HackinDROM to v2.1.1 and OC to 0.7.8. This fixed my LONG standing issue of macOS Big Sur not being able to see ANY available macOS updates from Apple; so I'm finally all up to date, now on 11.6.5. Fantastic!

However... Now I have serious boot issues when I need to get into either of my two Windows 1x versions. :(

Booting into macOS is simple and no issues at all. But now in order to get into Windows, I have to first clear nVRAM, press F12 for alt boot menu, select Windows Boot Manager, then select either my Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation. For each and every boot to Windows, I have to repeat these steps THREE TIMES! Sometimes, I even have to boot into the Windows Diagnostics, then select boot from another installation of Windows, then select whether I want the 10 or 11 installation.

Prior to the updates, the booting and OS selection process worked well.

I hope someone has some thoughts on this. Thoughts? Thoughts?

It may be necessary to disable AppleVTD. At the top of the Mini-Guide for OpenCore 0.7.8 is a section for Windows users. That section contains a link to instructions for enabling and disable AppleVTD. Try disabling AppleVTD to see if you can boot Windows through OpenCore.
