[Solved] Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF, can't reach installer

oh I see! So it should just work "out of the box", once I drag the kext onto the Kexts/Other folder.

So that said, I had no luck with IntelMausi nor Realtek.

I also switched the DellSMBIOSPatch to true

I also tried to update the IRQ-Fix to “true”

With all true, it was causing a Kernel Panic.

So I tried to switch back and forth one by one, the KP was caused by USBFix.

After leaving all the others to true, OS was loading fine, but USB pendrives were not visible anymore (I tried with several), while keyboard and mouse were visible and working properly.

So I reverted everything back to “false”, both all the IRQ-Fix and the DellSMBIOSPatch, with no luck.

Having no working Ethernet, USB Pendrive was the only mean of communication between my Dell Optiflex Hackintosh to the outside world (bringing in Kexts, etc..). So after a while, I decided to do everything from scratch. Formatted USB and SSD, New USB Mojave Installer, pasted “this thread” EFI onto it (Mounting EFI with “MountEFI.command”).

Now it looks like the Installation gets stuck. I tried 5 times but always the same thing… Attaching screenshots below… Any clue why it’s doing that? Thanks a lot…
USBFix shouldn't be used at all

make sure to do this guide to setup your ports correctly:

Ok I got the system up and running again.

Same problem, no Network LAN available. I tried INTELMAUSI, then restarted, no Internet connection. Then I tried a different version of RealtekRTL8111, no luck. Did the same for INTELSNOWMAUSI, LUCYRTL8125, and the SMALLTREE kext, but nothing.

I even bought an external USB 3.0 to ETHERNET dongle (TP-Link UE300), but it does not work. I downloaded the drivers for Mac, the flickering led signals that Ethernet signal is present, but it DOES NOT CONNECT. (It did connect to internet for a couple of seconds though, then it stopped and there was no way of getting back to work. Not restarting the system, not reinstalling the drivers. Now I have deleted the entry from System preferences >> Network, then uninstalled drivers and reinstalled them, and now the Ethernet device is not even present in the list (Before there was, but it was red and "NOT CONNECTED".

A question: do I need to perform the USB Port Configuration in order to connect this DELL Optiplex to the internet?

Otherwise for the moment I would just focus on the Internet connection, since switching back and forth from the DELL to my main computer (for downloading stuff etc...) is really time consuming (Every time I need to switch keyboard and mouse, monitor HDMI, etc...

Any help it's really appreciated.

you only need the one network card kext, check your motherboard manual to see what chipset it is. if it is a realtek one, then you may need to use an older version of that kext, like this one:
https://github.com/Mieze/RTL8111_driver_for_OS_X/releases/download/v2.2.2/RealtekRTL8111-V2.2.2.zip
as that is for version 10.12

What do you mean with "that is for 10.12"? I have installed 10.14 Mojave on this machine... Is the 10.12 referring to the version of OSX or the version of a Network card that my Dell Optiplex has? This machine was released in 2015 apparently.

Also, my model is not "Small form factor" but it is "Micro" form factor. It has same size of the Lenovo Tiny, to be clear.

the manual states that it has this card: l219 LM Intel. Should I use IntelMausi?

as you are posting in a Sierra Desktop section, i assumed you have installed Sierra.....

in that case:
is for Mojave (if you have realtek device...)

Oh sorry, I got here following the Optiflex 7040 title...

According to the manual I found online, I have an "l219 LM Intel" Network card. And I am running on Mojave.

I have tried installing kexts with Multibeast: IntelMausiEthernet v2.1.0, v2.2.0, v2.3.0, v2.4.0 with no luck.

Also, how do I see if the driver was successfully installed? I am opening System Preferences > Network > "+" > and clicking "Interface", I suppose it would show up there something like "Ethernet". But instead I just get the "Built in Serial Port" and "PCI Serial Adapter".

QUESTION: Could be the Ethernet malfunction due to the fact that I got the EFI folder on this "Sierra Desktop" section?

if you have a Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF then you should be fine

as your model differs, then you may have issues

try either:
IntelMausiEthernet.kext or AppleIntelE1000e.kext one at a time, remove realtek network kext

Hi, I did all the steps, but Ethernet does not show up in System Preferences.

Not with IntelMausi (I tried all versions in Multibeast. Not with AppleIntelE100e (tried all versions on Multibeast).

Do you know of any dongle USB to ETHERNET that will work without problems?

A Wi-Fi dongle would do too, but I need it to connect without problems, since I will be only accessing remotely this machine…

Hi there, I wanted to give you an update. It seems like the Ethernet is not working on this machine. I tried installing windows, and the Ethernet problem still remains. I wanted to thank you a lot for your time though.

Thanks,
Ed

thanks for the feedback :)

sorry about your ethernet port, you can probably purchase a pci ethernet card to pop into your machine
