[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Thanks Casey, i started over from scratch on my Extreme and hit a brick wall again. If there is anyone willing to share a working extreme EFI folder for the latest opencore i would be extremely thankful i could add my unique items as indicated above.. i hit the same issue installing on a brand new M2 that i saw before. I got to the installer it ran down to about 9 minutes remaining on the grey installer graphical screen then i get a rotating wheel like icon with no message and it reboots. If i restart the highlighted disk in the picker it comes back to the apple logo progress bar gets quickly up to about 1/2 and reboots with no messages over and over.
My backup disk now will run up to about 1/2 on the apple bar and stops HOWEVER the machine is available over the network with all the disks but VNC or screensharing will not work. I never hear the GPU fans spin up like you normally do right before the desktop appears either and of course it does not appear. I did have the backup disk plugged in for some of the work i've been doing so maybe i inadvertently messed it up. I reset my BIOS thinking that might be an issue. I have unhooked all disks etc. ... I finally yesterday plugged in my Win 10 disk and verified it boots and runs ok from the OC picker so i feel like the core PC hardware is good, i may flash the BIOS again. I also pulled the fenvi out and a 3rd party network adapter i was using for AVB audio.
Please compress and post your EFI folder, but remove serial numbers from PlatformInfo section. Even though I don't have the AORUS Xtreme, I can still do a sanity check.
  • What is the make/model of your NVMe SSD?
  • Which version of macOS (full version number) are you trying to install?

I would be glad to help you troubleshoot this on High Sierra. Some basics:
  • Which motherboard is your friend using?
  • Which version of High Sierra is installed on that system?
  • What is the exact model name of the Antelope Audio device?
  • If the motherboard does not have a Thunderbolt controller built in, then which Thunderbolt add-in-card is being used?
  • Has the Thunderbolt controller been flashed? (Hopefully not...)
  • With the Antelope Audio device connected and powered on, please have your friend run IORegistryExplorer then select File --> Save As..., and post the IOReg file.
Thank you so much!
  • Asus Prime X299 A-II
  • High Sierra 10.13.6 (I guess)
  • Orion Studio Synergy Core
  • Titan Ridge 2.0
  • After the failure of a flashed one, he eventually installed a brand new "virgin" one, to allow me to use it at least with Windows (the workstation is a dual boot).
About the last point: just to make it clearer, I owe the Antelope and a mac book pro, while he's building the hackintosh for me. I guess the file you're asking me is already attached in my first post, isn't it? I'm reposting it here again. (look for the ANTELOPE YES labeled one)
But in case it's not correct, please let me know!

I'll ask my friend to possibly personally continue the conversation.
Thank you so far for your dedication.
Waiting for you...

Thanks again @CaseySJ! I've once again followed your guides to update my Z390 system to Big Sur. I first followed your OpenCore guide to switch from Clover to OpenCore (I should have known to start with your thread as I spent a day trying to get past a black screen by trying to build my OpenCore EFI myself). I needed your downloaded OpenCore as a starting point. Then I did a simple in place upgrade to 11.2 from my Catalina install.

Everything I use regularly is fully working.
Awesome, glad to hear it!

However, see the third line in the post you quoted, where it says "Please do not quote this guide in its entirety"? Simply edit and keep the first line (the title of the post), but remove the remaining lines.

Couple of follow-ups:
  • What is the make and model of the motherboard?
  • I am looking at the IOReg file (Antelope Yes) in which the Antelope device is connected, but Thunderbolt device tree is a bit incorrect.
    • So please post the Thunderbolt SSDT.
    • Also, with Antelope connected, post a screenshot of System Information --> Thunderbolt.

Sorry about that. I missed that line entirely. I'll edit now.

Apologies for the delay; got sidetracked by the release of OC 0.6.6. The LaCie Mobile 4TB drive you mentioned appears to be a USB 3 device with a USB-C port. Some questions:
  • Does your computer have a USB-C port on the front of the case?
    • If so, does the drive connect to that port?
  • Are you using the USB-C to USB-C cable that came with the drive?
    • When you connect that cable to the rear Thunderbolt ports, does the drive connect and appear on the desktop?
    • Most USB-C to USB-C cables only support USB 2.0 data protocol, which is why it's important to use a USB-C cable that is specifically certified for USB 3.0. The cable that accompanied the LaCie drive should be a USB 3 certified cable.
Please, do not apologies.
You are like $GME stocks and everyone is holding you on (but you do not loose value) ;-)

My computer does not have a USB-C port (it is an old G5 Mod).
The drive is certified USB 3.1 and thunderbolt and does come with a USB-C to USB-C cable (certified USB 3.0.) and does show up while connected to the thunderbolt port.
I've bought a certified (and expensive) Thunderbolt 3 cable but when connected to the Thunderbolt port, the drive does not mount (but the led of the HDD does light up and I can feel the drive spinning).

ROTFL!! :)

I'm afraid these are not true Thunderbolt drives. They are compatible with Thunderbolt ports because every USB-C device is compatible with Thunderbolt ports. These are USB 3.0 drives with USB-C ports and therefore the USB-C cable works.

If the drive was a true Thunderbolt drive, you would see the Thunderbolt logo printed next to the USB-C port as you can see here:

Well, once again LaCie does not fail in failing me. Of course this is not a Thunderbolt drive. Fool me 15 times, shame on... me... again.
But they are still compatible, so theoretically, the drive should mount.
Or maybe, we should add those drives to the list of the shamed material.

  • Does the drive connect and mount using the USB-C to USB-C cable that came in the box?
  • Is it only the Thunderbolt cable that fails to mount the drive?
