One suggestion if you can't get a new one but still need a newer one. Check Ebay for a 2015 or even a 2013-2014 model and replace whatever apple SSD inside of it with a new NVMe SSD. The 2015 is the best one to do it with and they are going for half or less than half the price of a new one sometimes. The SSD will make it faster than when it was new and give you processor and USB 3 upgrades. I've done this with at least 3 older models and it works very well and you can run the latest system with no problems if you want.
Sounds quite exhaustive already, but let me ask if you also tried using different set of ATX power supply cables. I once shorted two pins on a cable, causing the pins to melt and fuse together.I tried every possible combination of power connectors including the 8-pin (ATX_12V_2X4) with, and without the extra 4-pin (ATX_12V_2X2). All those combinations tried with and without the CPU (no bent pins on MB) - which works fine in my son's machine. All those combinations tested with 1-4 sticks RAM installed in every combination of slots. Always had a fan connected to CPU_FAN. All tested without the AMD GPU and a few with the GPU.
Even connected an old beeper speaker to the F_PANEL and no Beeps at any point. Not once did any of the red CPU/DRAM/VGA/BOOT lights come on or even flicker.
Also tried with shorting the power pins, and the reset pins, directly in the F_PANEL in case the power switch was playing up.
The board arrived Monday afternoon and it took me until Tuesday afternoon to try every possible combination of power CPU & RAM, all without even a single spin of the fan.
It is not that I am new to building PCs either. My first home build one was a 386SX-25 with a 387 maths co-processor and a whole 1MB ram, later upgraded to 4MB courtesy of work (so I could occasionally work at home on some big SuperCalc spreadsheets). Probably build about 100 odd of them over time for myself, friends and family. I remember well the great feeling when adding a 100MB HD and running Windows 2.
I am just having an unlucky run with the Designare and only opted for the Aorus Master as it is about the only one in stock and available to order within a reasonable time frame. Amazon were again quoting 4-6 weeks for another Designare. I even considered going for the new Designare but they aren't yet available to order in the UK, some of the other Z490s are though. If it was another month or 2 down the road I would have bitten the bullet but I like at least 1 month of products being in the wild before I jump in. Any major problems are usually exposed by then.
I'll still be hanging around in this thread though as lots of useful info rears its head here.
As long as Apple is happy with the volume of sales they make at the prices they charge, unfortunately, the prices will remain high. How come a modern, comparable MBP is about twice the price of the one I have now? My income has decreased by 15% since the 2009 crisis...

I'm seriously thinking about buying a MacBook Pro. I've been hacking Intel laptops for years (I'm on my 4th one) but it has become increasingly difficult to do so. My current hack book is a nice Inspiron 5570, but for the life of me, I can't get either the internal or an external mic to work. The internal mic works fine in Windows.
- The 2019 MacBook Pro with 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports, 16 GB memory and 512 GB SSD was $2149.
- The 2020 version one is $1799, a drop of $350. And it has:
- Better keyboard
- Better processor
- Better on-board graphics (70+% faster than UHD 630)
- Better memory at 3733 MHz and LPDDR4X (lower power consumption)
@vicantuThanks @CaseySJ , you are the man! here my findings testing your new two files:
- SSDT-TbtOnPCH-NUC-8-OSY86-V3
- Please try this first. Remove the previous V2.
- Continue to use both ACPIDebug.kext and SSDT-DTPG-V3 just like last time.
- Also continue to use the same ACPI rename (_E40 to XE40).
- This one enhances the UGIO method to enable/disable Thunderbolt power dynamically.
With SSDT-TbtOnPCH-NUC-8-OSY86-V3 you got a LOT of improvement TB3 devices appeared and worked with my unflashed NUC8.... for about 30 seconds!!!
After hot-pluging my TB3 Drive finally it appeared under DSB1 and also finally it was mounted and recognized by the operative system, I copied files etc.... for about 25 - 30 seconds, then the drive still appears on Finder but stoped working, I disconnected and reconnected the drive several times on the same session, each time, the drive worked for 25 to 30 seconds, then I connected my eGPU, also it was recognized instantly and the eject button appeared on the top bar... for 25 to 30 seconds, after that, in this case, the screen went black and the computer self rebooted, here are the sequence of images and the capture of the log file:
- SSDT-TbtOnPCH-NUC-8-NO-PWR-V1
- Then remove the above V3 SSDT and replace with this one.
- Continue to use both ACPIDebug.kext and SSDT-DTPG-V3 just like last time.
- Also continue to use the same ACPI rename (_E40 to XE40).
- This version removes power management functions.
After booting with the SSDT-TbtOnPCH-NUC-8-NO-PWR-V1 file, the thunderbolt information was correctly displayed on the System Information but when I hot-pluged both the Drive and my eGpu, they didn't appear on the IORegistryExplorer nor were recognized by the operative system:
Log after Hot-Pluging for the first time the TB3 Drive using SSDT-TbtOnPCH-NUC-8-NO-PWR-V1:
...
Thanks again for you time, I think you are so close, I hope this helps to bring TB3 functionality to the NUCs family!

@Mace,Thank you for your help @CaseySJ
Feedback: LG UltraFine Display has no display output, the HP docking station and USB work normally.
This is my Thunderbolt firmware. It would be better if it could help me fix the problem of no video output. Video output is very important to me. Thank you again for your help
Is it possible to modify the firmware on AR? My machine's sleep is affected by Thunderbolt, and it will automatically wake up (make sure it is not a USB problem)
