[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Good point! I’m running Tuxera NTFS 2018 and I tried to disable it but no luck. Maybe disabling is not the same with uninstalling. I’ll keep you updated!
FYI, a few years ago I had severe problems with an older version of Paragon NTFS.

Kind of a stupid question: is it normal for the mouse to click itself upon logging in when you first move it?

If I reboot the computer, don't touch the mouse at all, enter my password on my keyboard and hit enter then let the desktop load up - as soon as I move the mouse - OSX detects a 'click' event and the Apple Menu opens. This happens every time I log in. Is this normal behavior?

Do you have both macOS and Windows on this system? If so, are the Fenvi/Broadcom drivers installed in Windows? I've found that it's best not to install any Broadcom/Fenvi drivers, but to let Windows use the Intel CNVi module.
Unfortunately, I have the same issue CaseySJ. I removed the intel CNVi module on day one of my build, but I do have Windows on its own drive but I never use it...maybe once every other month or so. The Bluetooth in the Fenvi simply shuts down and the machine appears to be locked up. I can remote into the machine sometimes and shut it down but other times it does actually lock up. A hard shutdown is the only thing that fixes it and then when the machine restarts, it works fine for days. Very strange. This is probably the only thing that really goes wrong with my entire build.

I'm wondering if it may be related to another issue by another user relating to USB. I have several USB fixes that might be conflicting...USBinjectAll.kext, USBWakeFixup.kext, and SSDT-USBW.aml installed. Could they be conflicting?

@qthegaijin
Since your BIOS shouldn't need to be modified if my evaluation is correct, there isn't any risk to proceed under the assumption that GPIO3 Force Pwr is ON.

Nice! Completely missed that post, lost to sift through here  Now to test SSDTs to see if I can get it to activate fully.

Definitely not normal. What are the makes and models of your mouse and keyboard? Were there any drivers that had to be installed?

Hello @zzmadd, both of those cards contain Alpine Ridge controllers, which means we can use an SSDT to activate Thunderbolt bus without flashing firmware.
...
This is great news. Which SSDT is the one for the Asus ThunderboltEX 3? I've been trying to get that card working in MyHero (Z170).

I'm using all three of those with all three of my Fenvis with no issues at all. Are you using both HS11 and HS12?

Wow, this sounds awfully similar to my 'USB randomly drops out until I reboot' issue under OSX. I think I'm running the same card, and I've been wondering if there's something conflicting here too.

Good to know it's not normal - maybe that's part of the USB issue I've been chasing. Keyboard is a wired Apple aluminum USB keyboard. Mouse is a wired Asus Gladius II. I just replaced the mouse a while ago (which was an Asus Gladius I) - and I recall the same thing happening with it. No, I don't recall installing any drivers for this one.

I also discovered today that my Focusrite Clarette 8Pre audio interface (which is Thunderbolt) - seems to be using USB for some reason. Do you think this could be causing my USB dropout issues? Staring to make make me wonder, considering I tend to see this issue when using Ableton/the audio interface. Not sure what I can do about this though.... Perhaps it's conflicting with other USB devics? or the SSDT??

Good question -- and perfect opportunity to address the following point. There are two methods of activating Thunderbolt Bus for Alpine Ridge controllers:
  1. Flash the firmware
  2. Use a custom SSDT
When we modify the firmware, we modify it only once and it can be copied exactly by all owners of that card or motherboard. It is one-time modification that is specific only to the Thunderbolt card or Thunderbolt motherboard.

But the SSDT method is different. It is customized primarily for the motherboard and not so much for the card. The Thunderbolt DROM is still card-specific, but the same Thunderbolt DROM can be used by all owners of the same card.

In the Alpine Ridge repository there an SSDT for Asus ThunderboltEX 3 for the Asus X99 Deluxe II motherboard. That SSDT will need to be adapted for use with a different motherboard.

To create a custom Alpine Ridge SSDT we need the following:
  • The system DSDT.aml (not DSDT.dsl). This can be exported from Hackintool --> Utilities --> Dump ACPI ("Dump ACPI" is one of the icons along the bottom of the Utilities page).
  • A screenshot of IORegistryExplorer scrolled to the point where Thunderbolt device tree is visible.
  • The make/model of the motherboard.
  • The make/model of the Alpine Ridge add-in-card (if used).

Z170X-Designare bios does not list GPIO3 Force Pwr as an option under Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt Security is listed, and yes, set to none is the way to get partial TB3 support (devices plugged in at boot only, no howstwap) with this board.

I have attached the latest Z-170X-Designare bios if anyone wants to take a stab at modding it.
Apart from the Thunderbolt settings, I have disabled the CFG_Lock. Now you don't need the MSR 0xE2 patch anymore. Check it, please. Please also check if CFG_Lock setting is visible somewhere in Power & Perfomance => View/Configure CPU.
