what could couses this do you think, thanks a lot

Hello @sffjawsh,

Unfortunately not all of the modified firmware works equally well. Restoring Thunderbolt connections after wake-from-sleep is an issue in many cases. One option, and admittedly far from ideal, is to modify System Preferences --> Energy settings to only put the display to sleep, but not the computer. At the end of the workday the computer itself can be powered down.

We may look for a solution to this problem, but it could take some time.

I see - bummer :( So close to getting the perfect build haha! Oh well. Yup the System Preferences --> Energy Save settings is the route I'm going for now. Please do let me know if there's anything I can do to help with the testing as you guys look for possible solutions.

Also, I did notice that Osy got this(TB3 after wake-from-sleep) working on the Hades Canyon NUC. I'll start looking there - wondering if it was within the firmware modifications or if it was something specific in the TB DSDT.

Hi! Im having a hard time today, yesterday everything worked perfectly, I got my new Nvidia gpu and was eager to try it out in Windows so I installed the SSDT-Designare-Z390-Disable-Slot-2-GPU.aml-file in CLOVER/ACPI/patched-folder, installed the gpu and tried first to log in to Mac OS X Catalina to see if it worked, which it did, couldn't see the Nvidia gpu only my RX 580.

Rebooted and logged in to Windows 10 and was working in Windows last night and this day. Some hours ago I wanted to work in Mac OS again but I couldn't get in, I got a lot of different errors in the verbose milieu (see attached file). I tried boot up from my backup but got the same error.

I run Windows on a m2 ssd in the first port/slot, I have my Mac OS on a M2 in slot 2 and a "data-ssd" in p3 I think.

EDIT:
I have taken out the Nvidia gpu from slot 2, in case it that was the problem.

Would be very grateful if any one can node me in the right direction. Thank you.
Several comments/suggestions:
  • I see you're using the beta Intel Bluetooth driver. If so, I would suggest eventually getting a Broadcom-based WiFi/BT card. Doesn't have to be done right away.
  • Do you still have your USB install disk for macOS? If so, try booting from it by pressing F12 during BIOS splash screen to open the BIOS Boot Menu (not Clover Boot Menu) and choose the USB disk. Then boot macOS as usual. Does it work?
  • If not, try resetting CMOS by following the procedure in the Designare manual. This will reset BIOS parameters to their factor-default settings, so configure them again starting with Load Optimized Defaults.
  • Then unlock the MSR 0xE2 register once again.
  • Now try booting macOS.

I would suggest keeping an eye on GPU clocks and temperature using HWMonitorSMC2. Were other applications using the GPU when you ran GeekBench one hour after booting? Web browsers should be closed when running GB.

I'll take another look at Osy's article. He uses modified firmware in combination with an SSDT to improve power management, especially idle power. Even on the Designare Z390 the modified firmware does not provide runtime power conservation.

THANK YOU, you are the king!

I tried booting from my USB install disk, that didn't do the trick so I reset the CMOS and unlocked MSR 0xE2 and redid the BIOS settings. First I tried to boot from my main drive but with the same error so I felt a bit hopeless there for a moment, rebooted my computer and tried my backup drive with SUCCESS.

I will copy the EFI folder from my back up drive to my main drive and hope that will do the trick.

AGAIN THANK YOU!

I see. You don't use a central studio power switch or power sequencer.

If I forget to switch on my ULN-8 and launch Cubase, it will pick the internal audio driver and I have to jump through a couple of hoops before it switches to the Metric Halo driver and i/o. It will not pick my ULN-8 as the default i/o when it is switched on after launch. Irritating.

What helps: use a different computer(I use a 2011 MacBook Pro with a dead AMD GPU) or iPad or whatever for non-DAW related stuff. Then when you are going to work on some music, switch on your studio gear. All of it, Hack and peripherals.

or you can turn on the sound card before turning on the computer...

I'm back with another Kernel Panic but this time it happened when I tried to shut down the computer. I have attached here the zipped text file.

I switched successfully to VirtualSMC but it seems that this didn't resolved the issue. Should I change the RAM speed? Currently it is at 3200mhz XPM Profile 1.
