The 4K Dell OptiMac - 9020 MT - Core i7-4790 - Radeon RX 570 - LG 4K IPS Monitor

R
I like the look of this card, mostly because it can play Far Cry and other gems on the Highest setting. But mainly because it's purple. What a good looking card if I didn't have another happening I would get this card.
Reading here and there... Seems to work well in Catalina. @trs96 thank you, great hint!

Working on the D7020 buid. Just in case anyone gets the same issue. I experienced a very high pitched buzz/whine from the BEEP component (next to the speaker connection on the mobo). This ends up being because the CASE is open, and POWER still in the board. I tried disconnecting everything to diagnose it, and thought it was the PSU, but turns out just be the warning that power is running through the board. Hope that helps someone.....

My 7020 build is using a Sapphire RX 570 ITX 4GB. Will let you know once ive tested it out, particularly on a 2K monitor setup.

Most of them come without a case open switch fitted but if you have one, you can control how the switch reacts in the BIOS settings.

New LP Graphics Option for Dell SFF Owners
Yeston is a Chinese co. that produces these "purple" colored RX 550s. Whether they are really 550s, I don't think so. It's more likely that they are re-branded 4GB RX460s. Note that after GPU it says Polaris 21 which is an RX460/560.

Here is the specs of the 2GB RX 460 - Yeston Does call their card Polaris 11

We do have verification that the 4GB RX550s work OOB with macOS. I do know that you must buy the 4GB version as the 2GB version is a true Lexa based RX 550 and won't work. Just like every other 512 core RX 550 that doesn't work.

So if you need a single slot LP card for your Dell SFF look no further. At least with your side panel on you won't have to see the colorful shroud. Some people like it though. I have no idea who the best seller in China is to buy from. The best prices look to be on Ali Express. You may get better buyer protection if you buy through Ebay though. If anyone tries a Yeston card let us know how it works. Make sure the seller includes the LP bracket with the card. Some may not include them unless you ask for one. If you want to buy from a Chinese seller via Amazon here's the link:

I’ve just ordered a new one for less than 80 dollars on Aliexpress... It’s shipping directly from China to Italy, taking more than 3 weeks!

As soon as this purple abomination is in my hands, I’ll let you know!

Attempting to buy one!, the first one I tried to buy told me I had to pay again, even though I could see the $ had already come out of my account. The store was called YingShan Store on AliExpress. So I just sent a couple of rude messages along the lines of "Sort it out", (I wasn't racist and I didn't mention The Virus, just so you know), and cancelled the order. Yes the money was returned. Also going to buy some pink spray paint to change the color of my 9020 SFF to match the Yeston.

Can't wait to see it done.

There's another option you've got. Buy the Yeston Cute Pet case and use that with your 9020 internals.

Anyone installed the Security Update 2020-002 (Mojave 10.14.6) on your Optimac? Is it safe? I am so happy with my Optimac and would hate if any update messed it up. Thanks.

This is why we suggest everyone make a bootable clone of their system drive before any updates. It's a safety net so to speak.

Here's a side by side comparison of the AMD RX 460 2GB vs. the Nvidia GT 710 2GB

As mentioned previously the Yeston RX 550 looks to be a re-branded RX 460 wtih 256 shading units disabled at the factory. From the specs above, you'll see it's going to perform a lot better and we know it will probably have support in macOS 10.16 and beyond. So if you want better graphics performance for basic gaming go with the 4GB Yeston RX 550 and spend an extra 40-50 dollars for longer term support in macOS.
