[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

This completely fixed the problem!

To remove the extra or leftover Install macOS... boot volumes from the Clover Boot Menu, we can do this:
  1. Download the 10.15.4 Combo Update. Click here. It's about 4.7GB.
  2. Double-click the .dmg file and double-click the installer located inside.
    View attachment 458463
  3. After a little while you'll see the window below. Click Restart.
    View attachment 458464
  4. Be patient. The progress bar can move slowly and it may seem stuck. But just give it some time.
  5. You should expect 2 restarts including the one triggered by you when you click Restart.
Went through update steps using the combo update linked above in place of the os updater and the results are the same as previous attempts. The update errors at end and preboot remains in place with clover. Did you complete post update cleanup of the install folder?

Hey @CaseySJ , just followed your mini-guide, i'm using OpenCore 0.5.7.
I'm booted successfully with 5700XT.
But USB is missing ports, and no Thunderbolt. I've used all the SSDT's from your mini guide, but no USBPorts.kext as it it useless if the UIAC is correct right? using latest BIOS F9b.

Thanks for any help
The OpenCore and standard build guides use a USB SSDT instead of USBPorts. If you look at the ZIP file attached to the OpenCore build guide, you'll see that everything is included. Even Thunderbolt hot-plug SSDT is enclosed. Remember to look for Thunderbolt in System Preferences --> PCI but not in System Preferences --> Thunderbolt.

I do see it in in PCI. is the numbers ok?
for some reason the usb's are not injected without USBInjectAll.kext. will investigate

I'm using F8 Bios version (Designare Z390). I have to say that the same problem happens with the latest Bios version (F9b) ; As I told you I have the exact same configuration on my friend's computer which is on the F9b version.
I don't have any NVidia graphic card. Only using 1 Monitor at the moment. Will be Using two.
The monitor is a Dell one (Écran Dell 24 Ultra HD 4K : P2415Q | Dell Francewww.dell.com › ... › Moniteurs › Moniteurs)
My RX 5700XT is a Saphire one (https://www.sapphiretech.com/en/consumer/nitro-radeon-rx-5700-xt-8g-gddr6)
I Have Dual Boot. It doesn't change anything wether I'm using MacOs or WindowsOs.

Thank you Casey <3
If both your system and your friend's system behave the same way then something is wrong in your configuration. It is not a hardware problem.
  • Do both systems have the same components?
  • Did these problems start from the beginning (as soon as macOS was installed)?
  • When you configured BIOS, did you start with Save & Exit --> Load Optimized Defaults?
  • It might be helpful to take a video of this problem so we get a better idea of what's happening.
It behaves the same way. The configuration is the exact same than I Have (I have setup his computer), otherwise I did F9b Flash Bios.

I have Plugged the 24pin ATX and the 8pin. Should I plug the 2x2 Pin also ? Or is it Useless and has nothing to do with that problem according to you ?
Thank you
Only the ATX_12V_2X4 (8-pin) is required. The 2x2 is needed only when over-clocking.

are you planning on migrating over to OpenCore for your Z390 Designare/RX 5700 XT build?
Have you tried booting with Clover?

I have also searched on Internet and some forum also say it can be a Train Memory. They advise to not Use XMP profile ? Do I have to change something in the BIOS ?
I'm using 2 x (32 GO Dual Rank) DDR4 Ram :

Which setting do you advise ?

And Yes both system have the exact same Hardware. The problem started from the beginning even when there was no Os installed on (Could it be due to the 2X32 GO dual rank ram (same brand and model) instead of 64 GO dual Rank model ?) And yes I did that : Save & Exit --> Load Optimized Defaults !

LOL I just got a way from a strange booting issue. Scared to update now.

Update:

Thunderbolt 3 Dock is identified, USB, Ethernet works
Connecting a Display Port Monitor fails the system and it crashes, even tried type c -> display port adapter without the dock, still crashes. is this a known behaviour @CaseySJ

I created a new EFI folder for that system on a USB flash disk maybe 2 days ago using the procedure in the 10.15.4 Catalina Mini-Guide (and the files from the ZIP attached there).

I used config-AMD-GPU.plist and copied/pasted the SMBIOS/RtVariables sections from old config.plist into this file, then renamed it to config.plist.

Then I made sure MSR 0xE2 was unlocked (native NVRAM) and Clover "rc" scripts were deleted.

After booting from the USB flash disk, I verified that Catalina 10.15.4 was able to load and run just fine. Then I copied the EFI folder from USB flash disk to the EFI partition of the Catalina internal SSD.

And then today I ran the Combo Update with no issues at all. And yes those leftover install volumes are completely and totally gone.

The ZIP file in the OpenCore build guide contains USBInjectAll.kext and SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V7.aml. It also contains a config.plist that is injecting all of the required files.

But these files are for Designare Z390 only.

Which motherboard, CPU, and GPU are you using?
