[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hello @CaseySJ ! I could no try your advices because I left a few days from home, but I'm back to solve the problem of update with my Samsung 970 EVO Plus. I downloaded the ISO Samsung Driver from the official website, launched unetbootin but there are few matters. The USB is most of time not detected by unetbootin, so there's not drive to select at the bottom. This is a main matter to create a bootable USB. I tried with several drives but it seems to be very random. The only times it worked, I put the driver with unetbootin inside the USB but when it was plugged in my Hackintosh and I selected F12 to boot from it, but after there was a black screen again and nothing happened. It happens two times with two different drives. Have you got a solution for the USB before I buy the specific enclosure you adviced for my NVMe M.2 ? Thanks a lot

My designare mobo is not detecting my UAD Twin MK 2 device via thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 adapter. Is there any solution u can suggest

Please complete your build signature so we know where we are steering...
Assuming that you've already installed the UAD software -and followed the System Setting/Security instructions, flip on the Apollo and let it settle before flipping on the computer.

@CaseySJ - Here's a stupid question... since it seems as though I have (in the reach of my memory) used Clover updater to install drives and for some reason I had VirtualSMC in 10.14.5 without remembering how it got there... do I simply copy/paste VirtualSMC into the UEFI folder and remove SMCHelper? Thanks for clarifying this for me.
That's essentially correct -- here's a more complete guide:

My Designare motherboarrd is not detecting my UAD Twin MK 2 device via Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. Is there any solution you can suggest?
Please do not quote the build guide in its entirety -- this is stated immediately below the title. Also, enter your CPU, Graphics, and Motherboard information into account-details by clicking here.

General suggestions:
  • Ensure BIOS --> Thunderbolt Security --> is Disabled.
  • Ensure UAD has latest firmware.
  • Ensure Mac has latest UAD drivers.
  • Shutdown system, flip power switch on PSU to OFF for 10 seconds, then flip back and restart.
  • Ensure Titan Ridge Controller appears in System Information --> PCI
  • Ensure Thunderbolt cable is securely connected on both ends -- these cables have a tendency to become loose.

Because I don't have the Samsung 970 EVO Plus (I prefer products with better price/performance ratios :) ) I haven't tried the firmware update procedure myself.

If anyone has updated their 970 EVO Plus via self-booting USB, please let us know how you did it.

Interestingly, my SATA4 / SATA5 ports are not working.
I have already reset CMOS and restored the factory default settings.
Battery already changed.
Tried various settings (CSM and SATA settings) and nothing appears in BIOS settings, always shows the device not connected
I made sure to connect devices that worked on the other ports and still couldn't make them work.
If I plug in devices between port 0 and 3 work perfectly, but port 4 and 5 don't
I'm running out of ideas.
If you install any NVMe SSD into M2M slot (top one closest to CPU) then SATA4 and SATA5 are disabled. You can thank Intel for limiting the number of PCIe lanes in the Z390 system. Intel has held back the march of progress for years. Because PCIe lanes are shared between NVMe slots and SATA ports, you cannot use everything at the same time.

Everything explained here: ( also link to the ISO image, so you don't need windows to update the firmware, seems it's not around anymore in Samsung site)

Hey @CaseySJ ,

I just did the update from Mojave to Catalina 10.15.2 and followed your update guide and precautions. The installation went well it seems, but something screwed up with the GFX card. I'm on a VEGA 64. The computer initially gives the screen a signal but when I reach the part where the V-RAM is tested (pink glitchy lines) the screen looses the signal and does not get it back.

When remotely connecting to the machine it boots up properly but it looks a bit fishy in the System Info, etc. Please see the screen shots. The GFX card shows up, but not under the main "About screen" for ex, and it does not find the monitor but says "Built in screen, 23 inch". Any idea what I can do?

Thanks again for an amazing guide and build!

This may be the same problem I am having (trying to go from 10.14.6 to 10.15.2) when I disable WEG, I get the pink lines and the verbose logging and then the signal to the monitor drops. I didn't try remotely connecting, but now I suspect that if I did I would see a successful boot into OSX. Unfortunately when I enable WEG I boot in to OSX (Catalina) just fine (no pink lines if I remember correctly, definitely no pink lines with Mojave) but the system hangs after a few minutes and only way to recover is to cycle the power.

Hi @CaseySJ,

does your comp sleeps and wakes well? I still have some issues with sleep and wake. When comp goes sleep and after and I will try to wake it, it wakes well. But when I leave it overnight, it wakes by-self but doesn't go back to the proper sleep. Interestingly when I press CAPS button on keyboard, it changes status, led becomes green when pressed on. But comp does not wake.

Code:
2019-12-31 15:47:20 +0200 Sleep Entering Sleep state due to 'Idle Sleep':TCPKeepAlive=inactive Using AC (Charge:0%) 686 secs
2019-12-31 15:58:46 +0200 Wake Wake from Normal Sleep [CDNVA] : due to XDCI CNVW/HID Activity Using AC (Charge:0%)
2019-12-31 16:33:48 +0200 Sleep Entering DarkWake state due to 'Idle Sleep':TCPKeepAlive=inactive Using AC (Charge:0%)
