[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Well it looks a little different but still not booting to installer.
Two suggestions:
  1. Remove the -v flag from Boot Arguments (by opening config.plist in Clover Configurator). Save the file. Reboot. Do you now get a black screen, a no-entry or "prohibited" sign, or something else?
    • If you see a black screen, try unplugging and replugging the HDMI cable.
  2. If problem persists, remove agdpmod=pikera from Boot Arguments. Save the file. Reboot. Any improvement?

Help please! I'm stuck on the Apple logo after clicking on "boot from install drive" on Clover.

  • Are you trying to install Mojave 10.14.3 instead of 10.14.6?
  • Would you like to install Catalina 10.15.1 instead?
  • The build guide for Mojave is in Post #1.
  • The build guide for Catalina is located here.
Please note that building a Hackintosh requires work, patience and perseverance. So have a look at the build guides mentioned above. If you have any questions about the procedures, feel free to ask.

Awesome. Thanks for the detailed reply!

Wow thanks for the detail! Instead of a black screen I got the Apple logo and a growing white line. The line filled but nothing happened.
  • The drivers64UEFI folder had 2 memory fix drivers when only 1 is allowed. I've deleted AptioMemoryFix and left OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.
  • Made a handful of changes to config.plist.
  • Updated Lilu and WhateverGreen.
Please rename and try the attached CLOVER folder.

Sorry for the late reply. No, I was never able to get anything to work except OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000. I always suspected the reason was because of having all the PCI slots filled...

BTW, I really put the system through it's paces today (Producer in the Edit Suite). Premiere got a good workout and had to be quit twice to release used RAM, but the system never needed a reboot, and never crashed. So that's a really good day! (FYI, I never allow sleep, if that's relevant)

As a fellow editor, I always appreciate such tales of "life in the edit trenches." Now that we share the build experiences, even better.

Thanks for this wonderful thread!!! I was out of the game using a real Mac Pro for the last 2 years but jumped back in because of the Designare board looking like an incredible Mac like board. I was just wondering if most people are using iMac 19,1 or iMac Pro 1,1? I'm using iMac 19,1 because I have the i9 9900K and everything seems to be rock solid.

iMac 19,1 for me, and rock-solid (knock-on-wood) here as well.

Okay, so let's recap:
  • You said you're using a Gigabyte Z390 board. What is the exact model name?
  • Mojave 10.14.6 Stage 1 and Stage 2 installations are complete.
  • But the Welcome screen does not appear.
  • You're using HDMI from the RX 580 connected to a POS Westinghouse 43" flat screen TV. :) Your words!
  • Verbose mode is still enabled and the final log entry is about some keybag error.
  • So post-installation is not yet started because that requires login to the system.
  • You are therefore booting off the USB install disk.
Step 1: Insert USB flash disk back in the original Mac. Then:
  • Mount EFI partition of USB install disk
  • Open config.plist with Clover Configurator
  • Remove the -v (verbose) line from Boot Arguments
  • Save the file, eject the USB disk, put it back in the Hackintosh and reboot (Press F12 at BIOS splash screen and boot from the USB flash disk).
  • Instead of the keybag error, do you now get a black screen? If not, describe what you see.
Step 2: Compress and upload the CLOVER folder from EFI partition of the USB install disk.
Casey, After adding your changes to the USB drive I now get the Apple logo, a quick loading white line and then black screen and the monitor light turns from blue to red. I assume it's because it turns off thinking there is no connection.

The one thing that is different is the power button on the case is blinking from time to time intermittently. It reminds me of when a HDD is booting/searching for files.

Thanks!

Just waiting on my PSU, GPU, n Ram tomorrow or Thursday and then it begins :headbang:

Hello @oopsydaisy (such an appropriate name for a hackintosher :) )
  1. We need to update WhateverGreen to version 1.3.4 or newer. It's a good idea to update Lilu and AppleALC as well. Note that these kexts should be updated in both CLOVER/kexts/Other and /Library/Extensions.
    • After updating to /Library/Extensions, we must run Kext Utility to rebuild kernel cache.
Thanks for the tips, @CaseySJ. So after I had my build up and running well, I set up the 1 click backup you referred to using CCC and the EFI script. I went to a headless platform ID, replaced fakesmc with virtualsmc, separated my home directory to another volume. All was working well, including TB, USB, WiFi, Bluetooth, audio, sleep. For all intents an purposes, a Mac. As I mentioned earlier, I intend to run a 5700 XT, so I thought I could install Catalina to be prepared.

I made a backup before I updated WEG, Lilu and AppleALC as you suggested. Rebooted and everything was good. I ran the Catalina installer, it eventually rebooted, I selected Boot macOS Install from (my drive) and it gave me the verbose readouts (still hadn’t taken out that argument). After a couple of minutes, it went to a black screen (no logo). I waited, and waited, and waited. At some point, it rebooted and brought me to Clover and I selected the install option again. It went to black screen (again no logo). I waited some more. After at least 30 mins, the cursor appeared on a black screen and I could move it, but nothing else. I did some searching and saw that you had suggested to someone else to shut down and either pull plug or hit switch on PS. I left it off for 10 secs or so and turned it on. No change.

I remembered discussions on the forum about a boot argument agdpmod=pikera, so I booted from my backup drive, mounted the efi from my boot drive, added the argument and saved the config. Then I realized there was an extra partition on my desktop, a data one, which I know from reading about Catalina. So it seems the install completed. Anyway, I tried rebooting from my boot drive and still no joy.

So, do you think this is still recoverable, or should I cut my losses and restore from backup? Speaking of restore, would I just create a new CCC job and reverse the drives, and include the script? Or should I just reverse the drives in a new job and manually copy from backup EFI to the boot EFI? Lastly, what do you think I did wrong? Did I need to update clover as well? Some make mention of WEG, Lilu and AppleALC, while others also mention updating clover. Thanks in advance and see all my components below, just in case.
