Issue 1: Sleep fails to wake monitor after a few days
- You won't like this answer, but the sleep/wake functionality on many Hackintoshes (especially Z390) is not reliable over long periods of time.
- With NVMe hard drives, today's systems can boot up very quickly, so we recommend shutting them down every couple of days.
- But let me open this question to everyone: Do you also experience sleep/wake failure after <N> attempts? Or sleep/wake works repeatedly and you've never seen a wake-failure?
Issue 2: System shuts down abruptly when running Heaven Unreal on Ultra.
- Are you monitoring CPU and GPU temperatures during this time? Do those temps climb into the critical region?
- Is your CPU cooler doing an effective job?
- Do the blower fans on your GPU turn on? Is there enough space around the GPU fans for air flow?
Hey again,
Thanks for your answers, I went ahead and threw some info in my profile.
I think I screwed something up in my quest to fix these issues.
Issues currently:
1. Sleep now crashes the computer within the first or second sleep. The first time I test sleep it sometimes works and shuts off hardware and wakes up correctly. Sometimes I will sleep the computer and it will wake right back up to the login screen, where the login screen either works or hangs and won't respond to input.
2. It also has hung multiple times when just navigating around the interface without anything graphical (no chrome either).
3. I still have system resets on heaven ultra, but can't reproduce on windows so it must be something to do with power /heat management in software.
Steps taken:
* Double checked bios settings
* Updated Lilu, Whatevergreen, the other Apple one
---> Also tried installing/moving them in L/E as a hail mary
* Updated clover to 5xxx
* Moved files to the new drivers/uefi folder structure (see: questions)
* Updated bios
* Reset sleep files
* Tested memory (passed)
* Tested windows version of same benchmark and did not get a crash
* Windows sleep also works reliably.
Questions:
1. Do we have a current config.plist with all the check boxes marked correctly? We have the same hardware other then my RX VII. In your screenshots you have some lines for rules that are not discussed in the instructions
2. In regards to Lilu, Whatevergreen, etc should I be putting these in the clover EFI or L/E? (OR both? I ask only if these things were changed in Catalina)
3. When I upgraded clover it did not auto create the new drivers folder structure, and I think reset many of the files I installed to get my hackintosh to work. Should I not upgrade using clover configurator?
Next:
I will wait for the answers for the above, but after I plan to do a full reinstall of mojave with all the latest versions of everything. I do have a bootable backup but I never got the system to be stable and I think I may have messed something early on. I will make a bootable backup of mojave if I can get it stable, I will then upgrade to catalina, test, and if succesful make a final bootable backup of catalina.
Off topic:
I don't want this hardware to go to waste but if I can't get it to at least be reliable for two days I guess I will get a used trashcan mac pro or something. iMac pro would be nice but I don't want to have a display on the computer.
