[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

With 10.14.4, the true iGPU device ID (0x3E98) will be detected and used automatically regardless of SMBIOS name. But we cannot, of course, use a headless platform ID if we want to drive a monitor with the iGPU.

So I think the following should work:
  • SMBIOS name = iMac19,1 or iMac19,2
  • Device-id = 0x3E98 (no need to inject or spoof)
  • Headless mode: Use platform ID 0x3E980003
  • Non-Headless mode: Use platform ID = 0x3E9B0007 (not sure if there is a non-headless platform ID specifically for 9th Gen CPUs)

If 10.14.4 truly detects it automatically, can I still use 18,1 or is the detection dependent on using a 19,X identifier?

Finally, do we finally have complete info for a 19,1 or 19,2 config in Clover Configurator?

You have InjectIntel checked on concurrently with WhateverGreen. This is generally an either/or situation. IGPU should be managed either by Clover (via InjectIntel) or by WhateverGreen.

Please try the attached modified config.plist. If you've upgraded to 10.14.4 you may delete "device-id" from Devices --> Properties because the true device-id 0x3E98 is supported natively in 10.14.4.

Tried changing it, tried using config.plist, but still same results...

Yes you can continue using 18,1. I’m using Macmini8,1 without device-id.

I’m sure people are working on it. I have a complete IOReg dump from a 2019 iMac, but it’s in XML format which makes it awfully hard to parse. Will try to get an indented text version.

Would you mind sharing it? I will see what I can do with it and send it back.

Quick note it looks like the 10g aquantia network built into Aorus xtreme is AVB compliant, I am show two AVB network interfaces now (one Broadcom pci express ) plus the 10g aquantia. Have not run audio through it yet

If you are experiencing random freezes and other users of the same motherboard are not, then it would certainly indicate a problem with your particular configuration. Native support for i9-9900K will most likely not change that. It might be better for you to attempt a fresh install on a spare SSD.

Regarding the RX580, it is already natively supported since 10.13.6. However, we still need Lilu and WhateverGreen to initialize it properly. And some RX580 models may require a little Clover tweaking such as setting Framebuffer to Orinoco.
I have tried anything @CaseySJ different SSDs, fresh installs, this is my 2nd mobo (first was prime z390-a), changed 2 GPUs (Nitro+, gib/te Aorus 580s), and now I have Pulse edition. I've tried different EFIs from other members who had success stories and still nothing. I have already 2 threads running but still nothing... I'm fighting with random freezes from the day I built this system (5 months ago). Ofc from what I have read from inside the forum and every other place I have search on the internet, I have come to conclusion that the issue lies in the AMD GPU heart. The only thing that I tried and gave 10 days w/o any freeze was a GTX 1050 running all day in High Sierra 10.13.6. If you have any tip to share, I'm all ears...

P.S. Sorry for describing my problem in another thread, if it brokes the rules please delete my post.

Best Regards

I'll reply briefly here, but for follow-up posts please point me to one of the other threads where you've raised this issue.
  • AMD GPUs have been rock solid on most motherboards, including Designare Z390. The RX 580 seems to be the least problematic.
  • Focus your troubleshooting only on a fresh install -- ideally a fresh install in which you haven't migrated any of your apps. You can sign in to iCloud, Messages, FaceTime, etc. but avoid installing any heavy-weight apps. Establish a working baseline.
  • Check a bunch of things:
    • Use memtest to verify memory.
    • Use a 650W or larger power supply.
    • Check your 24-pin motherboard cable and any PCI and auxiliary power cables going to the motherboard. Replace cables to see if that makes any difference.
    • Do you have a replacement power supply?
    • Does the crash happen randomly or always in the same App?
    • Is the system stable enough to let you update to 10.14.4?
    • Move the graphics card to another slot. Don't worry if the other slot can only provide 8 PCIe lanes or 4 PCIe lanes.
    • Update to the latest BIOS and check your BIOS parameters. Enable "Above 4G Decoding".
    • Do you have any SSDTs in CLOVER/ACPI/patched? Does it make a difference if you remove them temporarily?
    • In your CLOVER/drivers64UEFI folder, are you using VBoxHfs64.efi or HFSPlus-64.efi?
    • How many of your internal SATA ports are you using? Have you checked your manual to determine which ones cannot be used when NVMe drive(s) are installed?
    • Is your CPU Fan properly connected? Are your temps under control? Did you apply a very thin amount of thermal paste?
    • Have you installed the Nvidia card at the same time?
    • What other PCIe cards are installed?

If you have performed hard reboots or shutdowns since yesterday, it would be a good idea to flash the BIOS again. You can also try powering down and removing the plug from the wall for 10 seconds to reset CMOS.
hi again i dont know what to do.

i tried every step you suggested. nothing helped, so i made an linux boot stick and wiped the NVMe, flashed the BIOS again, made a new USB disk, an now i have a new problem see attached files. IMG1 shows while booting from USB disk. Than IMG2 seems normal. IMG3 ok something happens and IMG4 looks not so good.

thx for the help

This is an easy problem to solve. Last line in image 4 reads "Still waiting for root device". It means your USB flash disk is in a USB port that is not yet activated by macOS. Move the USB disk to a black USB 2.0 port. There are 2 of them on the rear IO shield located next to the purple and green PS/2 connector.
