Also that's interesting because Layout 29 is what I'm using without issue,

You must have a different audio codec.
Supported layout-id values are specific to audio codec.

Hey @vettz500, I somehow got stuck with kernel panics on every boot. Not really sure how that happened. I tried the black screen fix with the files you posted, which worked a few times, and then I kept getting KPs. I’ve attached the verbose log. I know it’s not the most to go off of, but any sort of insight would be appreciated.

I can try to get debug files from a boot from my flash drive.

EDIT: I kinda got it. I removed EmuVariableUefi-64.efi from my EFI partition and I was able to boot. I guess something with nvram must've been borked? I think my sleep is currently a little janky at the moment too. Hmmm :|

Hey everyone! Firstly I would like to thank everyone involved for putting in the time for the this laptop. This is my first hackintosh and I've been hesitant to give this a try until you made this guide @vettz500 . So far it has been amazing! Seriously can't thank you guys enough!

I had the same issue as you before. The problem is related to the DVMT patch, since the BIOS is locked and you can't change it by default. In some laptops the DVMT patch in the config.plist works great, others it doesn't work at all. That was the case with me and is the case for you.

This is something I will update the guide with soon. I'm just making sure the black screen patch is good to go before I do so.

Below are the steps to unlock the part of the BIOS that you need to get into to change the DVMT to 64MB and have it work natively without issue. Unfortunately if you want to go further and have the black screen fix, you will have to do this. There's not really a way around that I'm aware of. It's pretty easy and quick, but you do need Windows installed to make it happen.

First things first:
Boot into OSX with your install Flash Drive
Mount your EFI drive
Navigate to EFI-Clover-ACPI-Patched
Find your patched DSDT file and delete it. If you don't this before unlocking the BIOS, OSX will NOT boot. You will have to dump your DSDT/SSDT files and re-patch. There is no way around this.
Open your config.plist in Plist Editor or XCode
Find: Devices-Properties-PciRoot(0)/Pci(0x02,0)
Delete branch
Download the No DVMT Patch.plist attached from here
Copy and paste the PciRoot(0)/Pci(0x02,0) to Devices-Properties-
Save

Then:
  • Boot into Windows
  • Download Windows Bundle file attached to this.
  • Extract folder named "AfuWin64" and a executable named "AMIBCP64" to the desktop.
  • Open the command prompt
  • Type "cd" press space and drag "AfuWin64" folder in and hit enter
  • Type "afuwinx64 rzr.rom /O" hit enter
  • At this point, go into the AfuWin64 folder, find the rzr.rom and make a backup of it somewhere on your computer. This will be your stock BIOS set up if you ever need to flash back to a locked state.
  • Don't forget to do the step above.
  • Open the rzr.rom file with the AMIBCP64 program
  • Find Chipset / System Agent (SA) configuration and change that it user
  • Save the file
  • Go back to the command prompt and type "afuwinx64 rzr.rom /P /B" and hit enter
  • Reboot your computer and head into the BIOS.
  • Find the DVMT Settings
  • Change it to 64MB

Boot into OSX, re-patch your DSDT and you should be good to go.

Sweet, thanks for the writeup. Would this possibly cause kernel panics on shutdown too? I'm getting panics like the one attached below. I've found online that it might be related to power management, so I was planning on rebuilding my DSDT and SSDT from the guide and see if that does anything. I might do the bios mod anyway to see if it fixes the problem.

EDIT: Well everything started working fine again with just removing and re-adding EmuVariableUefi-64.efi. Gotta love hackintoshes sometimes lol.

Thanks! So even though the black screen fix isn't 100% yet you think I should still give it a go with the fix you posted in the other thread?

I don't believe that would cause a KP on shutdown.

The only time I've ever had a KP on shutdown and restart with this laptop is when I wasn't using the EmuVariableUefi-64.efi in the drivers64UEFI folder in the Clover Folder. This laptop needs that efi file for proper shutdown and restart. I know some people on here say that "you shouldn't use it" but the laptop doesn't function properly without it.

Yeah it was KPing on boot with it consistently, and worked when I removed it, but then was KPing on shutdown and sleep. Now I added it back and everything is working fine again lol. Not sure what that was about. I might try the bios mod just to hopefully get a little more stability though.
