Solving NVIDIA Driver Install & Loading Problems

The flag you need is nv_disable=1
Thanks. That puts the computer on an endless spinning wheel. What I am trying to do is installing the newest 10.13.2 drivers from a 10.13.1 backup version I have. When I try to install it it says that the drivers are not meant for that OSX version. Any way to force install it so I can install it on another drive?

Update:

I have already installed the latest supplemental update and the 104 web drivers but it seems I can log in normally 1 out of 5-6 times I restart the computer. The computer freezes when Nvidia at the top menu bar loads. Weird thing. Does anyone have a clue about this?

Hi All,

I finally worked it out. Graphics High Sierra 10.13.1 (clean install)
-After clean install, just installed Nvidia drivers package first. Restart.
-Then installed "Nvidia web driver" that will make Nvidia Web=YES in config.plist. using Multibeast (if NOT, the do it manually). Also any other driver/option If needed for graphics from mulitbeast according to your board support.

Now, keeping things simple and clear, not making mess by doing various things :
Optional steps, if it does not work in one go : I have done these 1 at a time and check after every restart.

(REF: Problem 6: Solving NVIDIA Driver Install & Loading Problems)

-Install EmuVariableUefi-64 , using CLOVER. Restart and check. (if needed)
-Install RC scripts on target volume, using CLOVER. Restart and check. (if needed)

Now, what actually worked for me :
While booting I hit SPACEBAR and got into the loader option. (NOT that separate OPTION icon there), hit on same drive from which you install/load OS.
You will get options to choose the way it loads.
Tick option that says load with Nvidia web drivers and then load OS with these settings.

KEY factor is Which FLAG you need, like : nvda_drv=1, nv_disable=1 etc....(that's what I have observed) Change flag according to what works for you.

In my case I needed "nvda_drv=1" whereas I was having "nv_disable=1" in config.plist
I changed it and worked for me.

Hope this helps you, anyone of you :)

If you were using nv_disable=1 it was doing exactly what it says. That flag disables ALL Nvidia drivers and puts the card into VESA mode. The card will never work with acceleration when that flag is present.

Hey Guys,

I have never posted because I typically am able to find solutions in the forums. Today that is not the case.

I just upgraded to 10.13.2 from a perfectly working version of El Capitan and everything in the install went smooth except for getting the system to boot with my gtx 970 and I currently do not have audio. Right now I am more concerned with the graphics, and I have tried all these solutions and yet still no luck.

I have been troubleshooting this for several days and am willing to do whatever it takes in order to make this machine run.

It doesn't look too bad, try this edited version and report progress :

BIOS - Disable Integrated graphics - Set PEG as Primary
Use a digital connection - DVI or HDMI - VGA is not supported.

Boot with nv_disable=1
May need to update Clover
Install web drivers
Update web drivers to ensure that you have the correct version.

Config.plist - Do not inject Intel or Nvidia graphics and no ig-platform-id
Config.plist - Disable SIP completely - CsrActiveConfig 0x67
Edit config.plist - NvidiaWeb = true as per Link
May need to emulate native NVRAM - Problem 6 - Install EmuVariableUefi-64 and RC scripts.
Remove nv_disable=1 from config.plist
May need to install Lilu.kext , LiluFriend and NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext

Potential Problems :
HDMI 2.0 is not supported - Use HDMI 1.4 (or lower)
If your graphics card has more than one output of the type that you are using then try another one.
Black Screen with MacPro 6,1 or iMac 15 or iMac 17 System Definition

Hi,

I'was unable to get my Web drivers enable into the Pref Nvidia.
No matter what I'm stuck with 'default' drivers.

I've done all the possibles installation and trouble shooting from this Post.

1- Nvidia Web Driver = 10.12.6 (16G29) - 378.05.05.25f01
2-Use KextBeast to install these two kext Lilu.kext and NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext
3- nvda_drv=1 boot flag + Nvidia Web in Sys
4- installed EmuVariableUefi-64, RC scripts on target volume
5-
Once rebooted, it should say that you are using the NVIDIA web driver. If it is not working still then you may need to re-run the Clover installer and select "Install RC scripts on target volume".
6-Card is on PCI no3 and BIOS setting to PCI3
I got GA-Z170X-UD5, i7-7700k intel, Systems definition 18.3.
Hack has audio, network.
Using a Geforce GTX1050
(Wasn't able to get HD630 onboard video to work)

here my clover and other infos about my setup

Hello everyone.

I got help with an issue here earlier where my display would go to sleep when booting Mac with clover. After I used a suggested config file, it seemed to work and worked well. Recently I tried installing Windows and installed it successfully. I can boot into Windows with clover but can not boot into Hackintosh High Sierra without the display going to sleep.

Any tips? I've attached my configuration file.
