Hi !!

I am wishing to build my Hackintosh which would be entirely dedicated to video editing. I have been using a MacBookPro for my own use, and PC at work. I always enjoyed working on MacOSX but I find very disappointing to see new Apple's setups...But, for now I can't get rid of Final Cut Pro which is still quite popular...

For those reason, I want my build to work perfectly for those apps : FCP, Avid Media Comp, but most of the time I'll use Abobe Premiere Pro and After Effect to take advantage of what CUDA brings...

After searching a bit everywhere on the internet, and thanks to :

here is what I thought would work well for me :

Motherboard :
[h=1]Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007R21JJK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)[/h]Wondering if I should go for the UD5H...

CPU :

[h=1]Intel Core i7-3770K (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SZ0EOW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)[/h]
Do I need a CPU cooler ?

GPU :

[h=1]EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti SSC 2048MB (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009KUT30E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)[/h]I really think that for the price it gets, it should be very good for the use I'll make of it. I am not planing to work on 3D.

PSU :

[h=1]Corsair Builder Series CX V2 430-Watt (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W2T2TM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&smid=A3RWP3TCRBOOI3)[/h]Would that be enough ?

RAM :

[h=1]Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006EWUO22/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)[/h]
SSD :

[h=1]SanDisk 128 GB 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZW2LY4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&smid=A33Y0YQUZ2NYD5)[/h]

Case :

[h=1]NZXT Technologies Source 210 Computer Case (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005869A7K/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?ie=UTF8&smid=A1TSN35NIS24VZ)[/h]

More :

[h=1]Targus USB Bluetooth® Adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002K6RK0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?ie=UTF8&smid=A13KONT7UBBZUD)[/h]

Already Owned :

Green Caviar WD 1To HDD

Aple Mousse

I am not planing to use an Optical Drive.

Well, I guess it's pretty much it and it is now that I am really wondering what I could have forgotten...

Please, let me know what you think, what you advice to me...

Thanks a lot !!

Mathieu

Board wise looks like it'll work except sound: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...i5-3570k-hd4000-works-except-via-sound-2.html, so for video editing looks like the UD5H would be the better option.

Unless you'll planning on overclocking or want a seriously quite PC then the stock cooler that comes with the i7 3770K will be fine.

Not used that GPU, sure to be some helpful posts on here though.

430W should be fine, doesn't give you much headroom if you want to add HW down the line though.

I would find something other than the 650Ti - many problems with this card.
I would spend the extra for a 660Ti or a 670.

The stock cooler is a bloody noisy thing. Invest 50 dollars so you can get at least a bit of silence.
Otherwise it seems fine.

Hi !

Thanks for those advices. So I think I would :

- read more about the GTX 650 TI : I am not sure I need the power of a 660 TI and it is more expensive but I also want a stable build...

- go for the UD5H

- try with the stock CPU cooler and see how it goes (I might be using headphones all the time since I have roommates)

- go for the low profile RAM

Thanks again

Mathieu

Hi !!

I am making my final cart to order the components, and doing that, I just figured out that Tonymacx86 advices the GT 640 as a CustoMac Pro Build... And after checking the specs, it look OK to me !!! It is way cheaper than the other GPUs and still has 384 CUDA cores and 2go of dedicated memory, of course dual DVI.

I know that it is far from a 660Ti but, I am wondering what you guys think...

Thanks a lot

If you are not into heavy gaming with all the settings maxed out it should do all right. Start out at medium settings and gradually increase until things start breaking up and back down a little.

I am definitely not into gaming. The "only" purpose of this computer will be editing. So, I need a GPU that will help Adobe Premiere Pro an After Effect to run smoothly using native footage...

Thanks
