[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@CaseySJ

1. I am experiencing issues with my slow Wi-Fi. I have had this issue before, but I didn't need to rely on Wi-Fi in my previous place as I could use the LAN. However, I can't use the LAN in my new place, so I am facing the same problem again.

MY BUILD IS THIS ACTUAL BUILD

Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580 - running OC 0.7.8 (I actually forgot how to check it but I am sure I didn't update it)

OS macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7 (Build 19H2026)
Kernel Darwin 19.6.0 x86_64
RAM 64.00 GB
Model Identifier iMac19,1
CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz
Intel Generation Coffee Lake

2. Also, I would like to know if it's possible to restore a Hackintosh from a Time Machine backup created on a MacBook Pro.

Please let me know. Cheers!

Hello @memomemonline,

Some questions:
  1. Are you using a Broadcom WiFi/BT card such as Fenvi FV-T919, or the on-board Intel WiFi/BT module?
  2. If WiFi is working, but simply a bit slow, then we can start by holding down the OPTION key while clicking on the WiFi icon in menu bar
    • You should see something like this:
Screenshot 2024-03-14 at 12.57.22 PM.png

The 4 parameters we're interested in are circled above, namely:
  1. Channel
  2. RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator)
  3. Noise
  4. Tx Rate
What values do you see?

2. Also, I would like to know if it's possible to restore a Hackintosh from a Time Machine backup created on a MacBook Pro.
Yes, but it will require connecting MacBook Pro to Hackintosh via a suitable cable. If your Hackintosh has a flashed Thunderbolt firmware chip (i.e. Thunderbolt Bus is enabled) then a Thunderbolt cable can be directly connected between the MacBook Pro and Hackintosh. If not, there are other options, but I haven't tested them (maybe direct Ethernet cable connection will work too).

Hey @CaseySJ

Here is what I get:

Hey @CaseySJ

Here is what I get:
Signal strength seems low.

Because you didn’t tell us whether you’re using a Broadcom or Intel module:
  • If using Intel module, try relocating the outboard WiFi antenna that came with the motherboard
  • If using Broadcom module, try connecting the outboard WiFi antenna to any two of the antenna ports on rear of Fenvi card and move the antenna around to see if signal strength (RSSI) improves

Hey @CaseySJ
I apologize; I thought I had pasted my stats and device in my previous post. I am using a Fenvi T919 - PCI Wifi Card Continuity Handoff BCM94360CD.
I have tried moving all 4 antennae, and somehow, nothing compared to an actual MacBook improved the speed test and RSSI to -81 from -82.
Any suggestions on something else that I could try?
Thanks!
