how would I look at the codecommander logs?

Kernel logs, read here:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/readme-common-some-unsolved-problems-in-10-12-sierra.202316/

and so you are saying if it is a EAPD problem (most likely I think too) then I will need to create a custom ssdt for myself for ALC892 and load it from my ACPI/Patched folder?

Yes. CodecCommander options can be configured from an SSDT.
You could also send the EAPD verbs via hda-verb (but that would require you become familiar with the HDA specification).

Looking at the 'Codec Profile' in the CodeCommander Info.plist leads me to believe your ALC892 is excluded from the desktop disabling actions for ALC892 (those exceptions only made for 1458 and 8086 subsystem). So probably the EAPD is being activated, so... probably the problem is elsewhere.

Did you try the alternate patch codec I mentioned?

what would I do to patch a different codec? (the one you provided me)
sorry I used the applhda patcher so I kinda skipped the whole manual codec patching learning.

It is for your config.plist. Use it instead of the one you have.
