Hi Everyone

After my SSD died last week I was forced to do a clean install OSX on a new drive. So far I was able to get everything working (Sound, Ethernet, Graphics card) but there is one interesting problem that remains. The clover boot loader load with out problem but when Sierra tries to start it immediately has a kernel panic (so soon that the -v bootflag gives no output other then kernel panic message), it then automatically reboots and then start without issue. When I log in to Mac I get some messages that there was a kernel panic but every thing seems to be function perfect. If I understand the panic report right it has something to do with the ALXethernet kext. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this.

Kind regards

I had a similar problem on my GA-H77-DS3H board with ALXEthernet.
After pressing shutdown, the OS always restarted, after removing the kext everything was fine.
So far I haven't found any solution to this problem.

I was able to create a work around with PCI ethernet card that I had laying around. I installed the Intel expi9301ctblk (about 35 euros) with the AppleIntelE1000e.kext , I removed the ALXethernet.kext from the EFI and the extension folder and now the problem with the kernel panics is resolved. Not ideal but it works for me.

Hi guys, i had the same Problem with Kernel Panic ( after Shutdown reboot automatically)

!!!Its a Problem with old driver ALXethernet.kext!!!

Replace with AtherosE2200Ethernet-V2.2.0.kext

Download AtherosE2200Ethernet-V2.2.0.kext (Download under this post)

Installation:

1. Goto /S/L/E and delete ALXEthernet.kext.
2. Recreate the kernel cache. (example: "Kext Utility") Download under this post.
3. Open System Preferences and delete the corresponding network interface, e. g. en0.
4. Reboot.
5. Install the new driver and recreate the kernel cache. ("Kext Utility")
6. Reboot
7. Open System Preferences again, select Network and check if the new network interface has been created automatically or create it manually now.
8. Configure the interface.

Troubleshooting
---------------

- Make sure you have followed the installation instructions especially when you have issues with certain domains while the others are working fine.

- Use the debug version to collect log data when trying to track down problems. The kernel log messages can be retrieved with "grep kernel /var/log/system.log" in Terminal. Include the log data when asking for support or giving feedback. I'm an engineer, not a clairvoyant.

- Check your BIOS settings. You might want to disable Network Boot and the UEFI Network Stack as these can interfere with the driver.

- Double check that you have removed any ALXEthernet.kext from your system because it could prevent the driver from working properly.

- Verify your bootloader configuration, in particular the kernel flags. Avoid using npci=0x2000 or npci=0x3000.

- In Terminal run netstat -s in order to display network statistics. Carefully examine the data for any unusual activity like a high number of packets with bad IP header checksums, etc.

- In case auto-configuration of the link layer connection doesn't work it might be necessary to select the medium manually in System Preferences under Network for the interface.

- Use Wireshark to create a packet dump in order to collect diagnostic information.

- Keep in mind that there are many manufacturers of network equipment. Although Ethernet is an IEEE standard, different implementations may show different behavior causing incompatibilities. In case you are having trouble try a different switch or a different cable.

- Disable Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) if the link gets lost frequently. It can be disabled by selecting a medium which without EEE support).

-No Panic anymore!-

My System: Gigabyte G1 Sniper Z87, 8 GB Ram, AMD Radeon 270X, USB Sound, USB Bluetooth Sound.

I wish you fun!

Many Thx on Mieze the creater of AtherosE2200Ethernet-V2.2.0.kext

I know, i use usb sound card for 5-10 $. It´s work perfect for me. My favourite sound output is this Sound bar (over Bluetooth)

I don't have ALXEthernet.kext installed, I don't have Antheros Internet. I've the same problem: re-start 5s after shutdown. I've try all tricks and solutions and no way

Thanks a lot! I've been looking for a guide to fix the ethernet problem! I'm using catalina 10.15.6 and finally I can use the net!
