The real fix for me was to switch to EFI boot only (disable Legacy Boot support in BIOS). In this way, macOS will stick to the initial active video port. Of course, the video card must have an UEFI BIOS (You can use GPU-Z, a Windows only tool to check if video BIOS is UEFI aware), otherwise your PC won't boot!
Some older video cards can be modified to become UEFI compatible, by flashing an UEFI GOP header into the video BIOS. Check this link [ here ].
