Well after first install it reboots..then I choose the newly formatted drive as boot drive...

Then it shows the Apple logo and progress bar...and switches to the Mojave screen telling me the install takes 15 minutes to finish....I assume the install software has then already been copied over....

After 1 minute I see then the ASRock BIOS screen again and it starts again..

Yes...I use the Intel GPU for the display...have to check tomorrow for the allocated memory...though I wonder why in the first install step all went fine....

I thought fist of getting me a RX580 as the GPU...but read that is more complicated to set it up than NVidia on High Sierra...dunno if I can easily install a RX580 afterwards....but I guess the built-in GPU would be enough for my girlfriend to do simple graphic work with Gravit Designer...

Well honestly to admit the last macOS install I did was two years ago...so can't remember how the actual sequence was...did more Windows and Debian installations in the past (o;

Worst case is to use the motherboard for a Linux project to replace my old NAS as the motherboard has lots of SATA ports....and go for a Z390 mobo listed in the buyers guide...

As mentioned before....will try again tomorrow...as it is already almost midnight here (o;

Keep you updated ;-)

cheers

Good morning

Installation never made it through...crashes around "2 Minutes left"...

RAM Speed set to 2133, VT-d is off....well..all settings done according to the Mojave installation tutorial here...

Hmm...opened the installer log window during installation...

disk22s1 is not convertible to APFS...

Then it just reboots...

Even when pre-formatting in disk utility as APFS it tells me it isn't convertible to APFS...

Looks many people have this problem but no solution to this....

Started again from scratch...

Re-downloaded macOS Mojave
Created new USB isntaller disk
Set FakeID to 0x3E9B8086
Set ig-platform-id to 0x3E9B0007

Loaded BIOS defaults
VT-d -> off
XHCI handover -> On
Cfg-Lock -> Off

When booting the installer comes up to the point where it says "2 minutes left", complains about not beinm able to convert APFS, then crashes the apple.WindowServer and reboots...

Thought now I go the other way...install High Sierra and then try to upgrade to Mojave...

But High Sierra Installer crashes as well during installation...

Guess I just wasted a lot of money for nothing...glad I didn't bought the RX580 as well....

You mean to put bjgo's config.plist into the installer USB stick?

Well so far I am not sure if the problem is graphics related due to the apple.WindowServer crash or due to the APFS conversion failure...

Just found today a forum entry from a user who used kaby.lake definitions for his i7-8700 CPU...thought it was coffee lake as well...

Meanwhile I installed Debian 10.1....just to be sure everything is fine with the hardware...and it surely is....

So the last resort for me would be the recommended Gigabyte Z390 I AORUS PRO WIFI to try...

Again....already almost midnight here (o;

Ah...this config.plist I tried once in the beginning....

It just hangs at the beginning with:

apfs_module_start:1393: load: com.apple.filesystem.apfs.......

Okay...with this patch it continues with the config.plist from here:

<dict>
<key>Comment</key>
<string>ACPI Patch by mattystonnie</string>
<key>Disabled</key>
<false/>
<key>Find</key>
<data>
oAqTU1RBUwE=
</data>
<key>Replace</key>
<data>
oAqRCv8L//8=
</data>
</dict>

But it then switches from the first HDMI port to the DP port....there is no way I can use HDMI output only...

In the end it reboots more quickly....syncing and unmounting disks from what I could see...
then it offers "install from Disk" as option where it copied over the installer files...

Starting from the USB stick just starts over the installation process...asking language and so on...

Booting from the newly installer disk on the SSD then throws an error:

macOS could not be installed on your computer
