Finally adding video card to 10.8.3 build

Hi everyone,

I'm running a 10.8.3 install and now that I'm getting more into video editing I need some GPU power besides the integrated graphics of my i7.

I'm a little confused on the steps required, however. To get everything working with my build, I had to install almost no "tweaks" to get my system going. Can I just pop in a video card and that's it? Are there any video cards available that I don't need extra drivers for (i.e. are supported natively)?

Any "easy" card suggestions?

If you want to stay with 10.8.3, you're limited to Kepler-based Nvidia cards (GTX 6xx/7xx except GTX 750) or GCN 1.0 based AMD cards (HD 7870, 7950, 7970 and some R9s). All of them should work OOB. Older cards should work, too.

Great! So let me make sure I have the steps right:

1. Purchase a Kepler based GeForce 740: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-GDDR5-Graphics-04G-P4-3748-KR/dp/B00KJGYOGG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1441732859&sr=8-4&keywords=GeForce+740

2. Disable onboard/integrated graphics in BIOS and set GragphicsEnabler = No. Plug in card and voila?
