Best Budget Gigabyte Motherboard for El Capitan Hackintosh

My on-board Ethernet worked on the RealtekRTL8111 v2.1.0d1 from Multibeast. The Mobo manual simply stated Realtek GbE chip and I had to try all 3 Realtek drivers in Multibeast until I hit the correct one! I'm guessing the DDR4 model is simply an upgrade to take DDR4 RAM so we have GA-Z170-HD3...

Best Budget Gigabyte Motherboard for El Capitan Hackintosh

I have the Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 DDR3 Motherboard with an i5-6400 under 10.11.5, all my USB ports work, Ethernet works, the HD 530 graphics work, BUT IT WILL NOT WAKE THE SCREEN FROM SLEEP! I had to fit an NVidia card to achieve that, (GE Geforce 740 + NVidia web drivers and the boot argument to...

    Advice on budget design build

I ended up with a Geforce GE 740 GPU, then found out I had to install NVidia web drivers for the correct version of El Capitan and finally, use Clover Configurator to add nvda_drv=1 to the Boot arguments in config.plist. I let the machine go to sleep and the screen now wakes up after a couple...

Geforce GT Cards & TV Monitors, do they work?

Ha Ha! Yes! The boot argument worked, thanks to Fl0r!an for the hint, I can now see my El Capitan desktop through an older LG flat-screen TV.

Geforce GT Cards & TV Monitors, do they work?

Right then....thans for that pointer, I will try manually adding to the boot arguments first, then if it's successful, I guess it needs to go in <key>Boot</key>. Nothing like installing hardware to Windows, but there's a learning curve to be had!

Geforce GT Cards & TV Monitors, do they work?

[SOLVED] Only the second Hackintosh I’ve been involved with so still quite green! I own an iMac and my job in IT involves lo-res display scenarios such as servers and I don’t do gaming either, so every build I ever do uses on-board graphics and basic monitors. Thus, all my temporary non-VGA...

    Advice on budget design build

The HD530 chip on my GA-Z170-HD3, as I have found out, does not wake an HDMI connected monitor up from sleep. The board wakes, but not the monitor. Apparently, according to other threads on this forum, Nvidia GPU's are the best for waking a Hackintosh monitor from sleep so I'm now looking for a...

    [SUCCESS] i5-6600K, Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3, Gigabyte Radeon R9 390

I have this board + i5-6400 running El Capitan 10.11.5 but I'm using the onboard Intel HD530 graphics (for now). Using MultiBeast 8.2.3 here's what works (for me), using the UEFI Boot Mode: USB - all working. Ethernet - use Realtek RTL8111 v2.1.0d1 Audio - Should be ALC887 and there are 2...

How do I change Graphics Config installed by MultiBeast on failed boot?

I couldn't get into it at all, only my second attempt at Hackintosh. I ended up completely erasing the partition on the boot drive and reinstalling from scratch. This time I used the HD 530 kext and it booted. The network card is showing as Realtek 8111. However, I can't get a device to show...

How do I change Graphics Config installed by MultiBeast on failed boot?

BOARD: GA-Z170-HD3- DDR3 CPU: i5-6400 GPU: Intel HD (onboard) After successful boot to El Capitan desktop, I went through the simplest MultiBeast configs - audio, networking and graphics before first reboot. Using the motherboard drivers disc, I explored it for the identities of the above...

Is it worth ripping a G5 apart for a case for a new build?

That's great guys, I don't think I can be bothered with the grief of the case mods! I'd rather reserve the time for the post installation troubleshooting! Anyway, I'm sure somebody will find a use for the old G5 on eBay. :)

Is it worth ripping a G5 apart for a case for a new build?

I've just been given a working 2005 G5 PowerMac and of course, the case is beautiful and would make a great house for some modern furniture. However, from what I can see, stripping it out isn't much fun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLTyA1iSyg8) but doable (though I suppose that depends on...

Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade stalled at MultiBeast

Well....what a challenge.... The fresh install of MAvericks stalled as well, so I tried one last thing, a BIOS update. Well, this piece of crap was running on an old version, so I flashed with the latest update and guess what...we have boot to Mavericks finishing installation! The game isn't...

Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade stalled at MultiBeast

Well, this is a pig of a build to get the SSD out of! A drive caddy that wants a gazillion screws and brackets to get it out - no Dell easy clip-off-slide-out! Anyway, it mounted and I've copied the Extra folder to my local storage. I can see the .plist files are just XML and there is a...

Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade stalled at MultiBeast

Right then, I guess once I get to the original file on the original install I can see what it looks like opened up in an editor. Then I guess I have to work out what I need to tell the OSX about the new video card - if that's where driver information is kept.

Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade stalled at MultiBeast

Right then, I'll get that SATA drive caddied and check out the folder structure on my iMac. I am guessing that MultiBeast is changed frequently to add the known hardware compatible with OSX and this also makes the entries needed in the DSDT file.

Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade stalled at MultiBeast

Something ain't right here, it doesn't want to boot into the Snow Leopard restore on the SSD. I'm beginning to think it must be a BIOS setting or something. The BIOS itself is about 2 releases behind, so I don't know whether it will make a difference in flashing - nothing to lose at this point...

Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade stalled at MultiBeast

When it boots from the iBoot CD, I take it I select iBoot as the option, not the SSD or USB?

Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade stalled at MultiBeast

This build has a DVD RW hung off a SATA cable and it wouldn't boot the iBoot CD! Anyway, a USB CD drive got it booting at least...
