[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

IGFX must be set to Enabled in BIOS.

Those extra framebuffer entries are redundant and should be deleted.

Thank you so much! Now that I've enabled IGFX, preview and quick look are working again!

I removed the framebuffers, too. Should I also remove these boot arguments?

shikigva=32 shiki-id=Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94

Before I messed around with these arguments, shikigva was set to 40 and the shiki-id wasn't even used... Maybe just revert back to shikigva = 40?

If the screen went blank while you were in BIOS Setup, then it implies a hardware problem. MacOS is not loaded, of course, while you're in BIOS. It might be a good idea -- as a first step -- to unplug and reinsert the following:
  • The AMD GPU. When removing the GPU, be sure to flip the retainer clip behind the PCIe slot. Reinsert the card and ensure that PCIe power cable(s) are securely connected.
  • The memory DIMMS. Remove and reinsert all DIMMs.
Additionally:
  • What power supply do you have?
  • How many watts?
  • How old is it?
  • If you're using a power strip, did water spill onto it?
  • Are you using a UPS (uninterruptible power supply)?
  • Are you using a surge protector?
  • Is there any Nvidia GPU in the system?
  • Do you have Windows installed on this system?

At this time a clean install may not be justified because it sounds like a hardware issue.

After having put the graphic card wrongly I stressed the whole afternoon because I was not even able to boot again.
And then I heard the click in the graphic card slot... I could boot HDMI on the graphic card, bios doing well, clover boot well as well, no error (with my EFI configured as iMacPro). Everything works, bluetooth, sound, quickview, wifi, everything
I could play a game that usually was causing crash after 5min for 45min at least, I was almost shouting victory too fast and then bam, again this annoying crash and black screen freeze..

The AMD GPU card is well in the slot I can assure now, the memory dimms as well, I switched them it works as well (I'm writing with the hackintosh right now).
I also tested them when I was boot without the GPU CARD and no problem so far (result joined in the screenshot).

My Power supply is a 1000w (evga 1000 gq). It is one month old.

I am using a strip but I dont think water spilled onto it. The computer works perfectly fine even with this brand new EFI and SMBIOS config, just that happens black screen freeze randomly before 30min of use. But the computer stays on (leds and fans)

I dont have UPS neither surge protector.

No Nvidia GPU, I followed your build only.

No Windows neither.

I joined my EFI folder (without the serials) and some screenshot of my GPU proc usage before the crash maybe it can gives some indications. I'm not sure of all the BIOS settings with the EFI I did and would appreciate a lot some insight of things not to forget to change.

Thank you so much @CaseyJS for trying helping me !!!

EDIT : After shutting it down I got for the first time a kernel panic error so I'm adding the photos I could take. I also took pictures of the BIOS settings for helping. The only thing I changed after taking the pictures in the BIOS was to disable the Internal Graphic because I read to do it if I was using iMacPro. Everything seems to work the same since 20min now. Going to bed so I'm shutting down the computer for good and I will continue tests tomorrow.

Hey Casey,

Thanks for all your help, REALLY appreciated!

I acquired a new monitor (ViewSonic VX2476-SMHD) that's connected with a USB-C to DP cable directly into the monitor but still doesn't seem like my system is being powered by accelerated integrated graphics. Any ideas or suggestions?

I tried booting with the config file you updated and sent but it produced the same results (photo attached) even with this new monitor connecting from HDMI port directly.

My configuration is a little different from yours so maybe it has something to do with that? I'm sending my parts below:

Intel i7 9700K
Designare GIGABYTE Z390 DESIGNARE
32 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 3000 MHz DDR4 DRAM
2x XPG GAMMIX 512GB(boot and work drive)
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G+ power supply
NZXT H500 - Compact ATX Mid-Tower PC Gaming Case
Corsair H60 liquid cooler

ViewSonic VX2476-SMHD

I'm not against getting a discrete GPU but want to see how accelerated graphics work for my workflow before I make another investment.

I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

cheers,
andre

thanks

Here is the log:
The log indicates that the system was entering Darkwake instead of full sleep. And Darkwake was interrupted by an HID event (human interface device), most likely a keyboard or mouse event.
  • Do you have Enable Power Nap turned on in Preferences --> Energy Saver? If so, try turning this off.
  • If this alone does not work, then temporarily turn off Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and use a direct-attached keyboard and mouse (hopefully you have one of each).
  • If this also does not work, then momentarily disable Plex Media Server (there are quite a few Plex Media Server entries in the log).'

Egpu (s) Blackmagic and Sonnet EGFX BREAKAWAY BOX 650 do not work in TB3 (on my configuration: Gigabyte Z390 designare, Core i9-9900k 3.6 GHz RX 580)
But LG UltraFine 5K works well !!!
eGPUs can be finicky. The PowerColor Gaming Station, for example, must be connected during boot and the Thunderbolt SSDT must either be (a) removed or (b) modified to disable hot-plug capability. Then the eGPU will work. This has been tested also on the Razer Core eGPU.

I don't think it's sleep related because sleep is disabled. Also my memory is 2400MHZ.
When I read that the system had been left on all night, I assumed it put itself to sleep. But if sleep really is disabled, then the behavior you saw is suspicious. Perhaps try the same thing again to see if it's repeatable?

Hi @CaseySJ I'd greatly appreciate any help.
I've attached the requested files.

Note 1: I removed the Intel CNVi WiFi/Bluetooth card just to make sure it was not causing some sort of conflict.
Note 2: Bluetooth is working, just no WiFi
The WiFi page is glaringly empty so something really is amiss.
  • Please note that the IOReg file appears to be corrupted.
    Screen Shot 2019-09-08 at 5.48.59 PM.png
  • Is this the Fenvi FV-T919 or some generic components? If this is an ABWB card, it most likely won't work. Please see this post. We've had a spotty track record with off-brand components recently, which is why the Fenvi FV-T919 and its lower-performance cousin the FV-HB1200 are really the only recommended cards.
However, I would also recommend performing a CMOS Reset according to the procedure in the Designare user's manual. This forces the firmware to fully re-scan the system for all PCIe, NVMe, SATA, and other devices in the system.

Thank you so much! Now that I've enabled IGFX, preview and quick look are working again!

I removed the framebuffers, too. Should I also remove these boot arguments?

Before I messed around with these arguments, shikigva was set to 40 and the shiki-id wasn't even used... Maybe just revert back to shikigva = 40?
Glad to hear it. I think if everything is working, then it's okay to keep the shikigva and shiki-id parameters. You may try either way.

10.14.4 Platform ID 0x3E980003 imac18, 3 using Final Cut Pro X (FCPX), gfx in Intel Power Gadget is hard to exceed 0.35 ... how to break the system limit .....
Trying to give up weg and use shikigva = 32 shiki-id = Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94 but the effect is not ideal, if using macXvideo detection, gfx easy 1
Please forgive me for being a non-native English speaker. I will use translation software to communicate.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. BIOS settings seem okay, but some parameters differ from the build guide (such as Thunderbolt Security). I would suggest:
  • Re-flash the BIOS to F6.
  • In BIOS Setup, select Save & Exit --> Load Optimized Defaults.
  • Then make all BIOS settings again based on the guide in Post #1.
This will ensure a clean system and will also eliminate the effects of any over-clocking or over-volting actions (if any).

Then let's see what happens...
