[Guide] Dual Booting Mountain Lion and Windows 8

I have installed Mavericks and Windows 7 on two separate SSD's
It boots fine OSX but when i try to boot Win7 my screen is saying "no signal". When I manual boot the disc in bios it works fine.
Why can it not boot from the boot loader?
What boot loader are you using and is Win7 installed Legacy or UEFI mode?

If using Chimera and Win7 is UEFI - Chimera will not boot UEFI Win installs. You have to use Clover or install Win7 Legacy mode.

The one that came with the latest multibeast.
Win 7 is installed in legacy mode.

Bios is set to legacy mode only.

OK.
IF you boot and hit the spacebar at the Chimera time out screen what icons do you see?

Do you mean the bootoptions? Or is it like OSX, Windows 7 and the 100 MB partiton reserved for the system(win 7)

Yes. boot option icons should be OS X, System Reserved, Windows NTFS

boot Win7 with System Reserved.

Is it then possible to hide the Windows 7 partiton in the bootloader? System reserved is the third option.

Yes. Best way is to boot Win7, open Winds Explorer, right click on the C:\ partition and select properties. Give it a name by typing it in in the box at the top of the properties menu. Apply and OK.

in org.chameleon.boot.plist add the hide key and use the name in the string. Might need " " around the name - don't remember off the top of my head - do a forum search for the wiki on chameleon boot flags

Hello everyone.

I had MacOSX already installed and have been using it for months, decided to install Win8.1 on a different SSD.

And I have a problem. My windows install wont "see" my 2 other disks, both SSD and HD, even on Device Manager. It will only show "Corsair Force 3 SSD" under "Disk drives".

Disk setup :
240gb SSD -> Macosx mavericks only
120gb SSD ->Win8.1 only
2TB HardDisk -> Shared. It has a partition with 200GB (WINDOCS) for aid to Win8.1 and another 1.8TB for aid to Macosx (MACDOCS).

Id like to fix this, so that my windows install can see the harddrives, even if it cant see the actual Macosx partitions (in fact, it would be perfect if it couldnt see em), but my WINDOCS partition is a must since the small SSD wont suffice for day-to-day stuff.

I can boot both Macosx and Windows perfectly fine from Chimera. I have my boot priority with 1- Optical CD, 2- 240gb SSD. The hard disk mode is set to AHCI and not IDE.

What can I do?

PS: I have also confirmed that my windows install is installed in Legacy mode and not UEFI.

Windows is unable natively to index OS X HFS+ formatted hard drives. The will not even show up in Windows Explorer.
Try installing the Windows Bootcamp drivers you can download from Apple, or purchase Paragon for Windows - a 3rd party app to allow Windows to read/write to HFS+ drives.

Hi Guys
I need help, as I am a very confused newbie on my first build. (Long time mac user, completely lost with windows)

I just built a customac pro with z97x UD5h, i7 4790k, 16gb, gtx970 for a dual boot system.

While waiting for my 2nd SSD to arrive I installed Win 8.1 from a CD, without changing any BIOS settings (and have now already installed a ton of games and programs)

Now my other SSD arrived for Yosemite, and my 1TB HDD for storage, and I read this thread that you need to change bios BEFORE installing from CD.

1. Do I need to reinstall Win 8.1 from scratch (erase/reformat disk) after having changed my BIOS settings, just so Chimera boot loader can see it? Or can I still boot into W8 if I boot into BIOS and manually select it anyway, not using Chimera/Chameloen?

2. If I change my Bios settings now for OSX install, will it affect my Windows running now? Does the BIOS change settings depending on which boot you choose?

3. Also, for the 1TB, should that be formatted for HFS+ (I've already installed paragon on windows to read mac drives) or should it be partioned to FAT32 500mb HFS 500mb for both drives to access.

Thanks in advance for any help!
