[GUIDE] Dell XPS 9530

my battery life is really short, but REALLY 2h30, max 3h ! On windows, it is almost x2 (5/6 hrs real)

I've the model with only one SSD inside, and the battery is a little bit stronger than the model with a second hard drive (i opened it and saw there is no free space for a second drive in my model because the battery is taken all the larger of the laptop)

Same here. I wonder if this different battery could have to do with the power management fail. I still get random restarts (perhaps I should say CONSISTENT restarts - just random in timing). I don't think this thing has ever made it past 20 minutes of use without kicking me to a black screen and rebooting. It just did so as I was reading your post...

I have the mid-range model with the smaller battery, but I definitely have not made it past 3 hours.
Windows does last longer.

With full XPCM power-management I meant that sleep, wake etc is working and there are P-states available in DPCIManager.

I have seen a lot of people comment that OS X tends to last less long compared to Windows on hackintosh devices when using battery.

And strangely the opposite is true for Macbooks, they last less long running Windows through bootcamp.

Currently I am playing around with the SSDT's to test just that, loading all original SSDT aml's together with the patched ones (In the right order) to see if any changes in power-management happen.

I will revert that back to Rehabman when I have some tangible results, still testing for now.

Rehabman, any suggestions for improving battery life further?

Shin,

Regarding the 20 minute crashes, obviously I am not experiencing those.
Just now I flipped open my laptop where I closed the lid last night and all is still running.

Follow Rehabman's suggestion for an IOReg copy and also check if anything is in your system log or if the crash is re-producable.

It's not easy to find the brodcom card ! I finally found one at this adress and i've just ordered this:

http://www.offerany.com/p-38191631476.html

That is exactly the card I have in my Dell XPS 9530, "CS1 Sample" with empty serial number or revision number.

If the picture is indeed what you will be getting, it is the right card for a good price also (I paid ~$65 with shipping).

I'm testing leaving CPU related SSDTs in-tact. This avoids the PNOT/PPNT patch and allows the various Notify(_PR.CPU*, *) to happen (in response to other ACPI events... GPE/EC queries/etc.). Whether the OS X implementation of AppleACPICPU::message does anything with these notifications I'm not sure on.

So far it works, but I haven't really noticed any differences in battery life. Haven't really tested it either...

[GUIDE] Dell XPS 9530

Ok, I am doing the same here.

Current testing scenario is:

  • Allow original _PR.CPUX SSDT's to load
  • Allow LakeTiny SSDT to load
  • Add supplemental ssdtPRgen SSDT to make X86PlatformPlugin show up
  • Disable CState / PState generation in Clover

Like you I haven't noticed any drastic changes, neither in extended battery life or any errors.

You will want to also make sure you repatch DSDT without the PNOT/PPNT patch. The reason that patch is necessary is because of the removal of the OEM CPU SSDTs....

I remember that under windows, in the intel graphic pannel setting, there is an option to improve the battery life, i don't remember exactyl what this option do, but i believe it's about the brightness or color management.

Personnaly i've no reboot. But i noticed two bugs: when i try to play 4k video sample from my Lumix LX 100 with Quicktime, OSX automatically log off. It doesn't reboot, it log off. If i play the same video sample with VLC, no matter: it plays normally.

And, flash player crash everything. I read about some guys who changed the smbios to "macpro i don't know what" to resolve that (?!)

[GUIDE] Dell XPS 9530

I have the same issue with flash, however I use Google Chrome which has no so issues.

Us XPS 9530 users are not the only one with the flash issue, maybe there are indeed solutions around.
However changing SMBIOS to MacPro would not be the best one, since that means making it a desktop.

Also check what information is in /var/log/system.log when you try and use Quicktime to play the 4K video.
That might give more information on what exactly the problem is.
