[GUIDE] Dell XPS 9530

I was not able to sign IOKit because I didn't have xcode tools installed. I have reinstalled several times in further attempts now, am past that.

However I did not have qe/ci enabled after that step (the pixel clock fix)

I patched all of my DSDT/SSDT files but was not able to boot. I narrowed it down to SSDT-12 - removing this patched file, I can boot again (or otherwise can boot off of the clover bootloader on the usb stick which has no patched acpi files)

Apply the following patches to SSDT-12.dsl:

[2.12] Rename GFX0 to IGPU
Intel HD 4600 (This also spoofs the mobile Intel HD4600 as a Desktop Intel HD4600 for Yosemite QE/CI)
[2.11] Brightness fix (Haswell)
Audio HDAU (Enables HDMI Audio device)
Intel HD 4600 Audio (Enables HDMI Audio device)

this is unclear - there are several Intel HD 4600 patches. Which is the correct one to use? I tried one from each source, but it still would not boot. In addition, I cannot find a specific HD 4600 Audio patch, and am unable to find/add the HDAU ( ?) patch to SSDT-12.

I was able to patch the HDEF to the DSDT, but not the HDAU.

Interesting what IS working.. I replaced my SSDT-12 with yours that you shared on the 4th page of this thread. It boots up, but with a graphics glitch screen. If I press the power button for a second to put it into sleep, then resume it, it's comes back fine! qe/ci, audio and all. it is quite glorious after staring at slow, choppy and tiny (unscaled 3800x1800) screen for so many hours. i think I deserve to sleep now.

hello,
can you please update the link for AMI Flash Utility as the link has changed, don't know which to download.

thank you

Spud - The AMI link was my issue as well. Here's the correct link (they moved the files):
http://www.ami.com/download-license...IOS_and_Aptio_AMI_Firmware_Update_Utility.zip

You want to download the firmware utility and then the .exe you are looking for is in the AFUIWINGUI.EXE found in the Aptio folder after you extract everything. Its buried several levels under Aptio so you need to keep going down to get to the 32-bit or 64-bit file.

Darkvoid - I'm now stuck at the clover install. When I boot from the USB in verbose mode it seems to just hang right at the beginning after the UUID is listed. I think I am probably not creating the clover USB correctly.

In following your steps, I am able to mount the EFI inside of terminal but after that I don't see the EFI in Finder or in the Clover install. You say to 'extract' Clover to the EFI - I'm assuming you mean install? When I install Clover I am only able to see the "Install Yosemite" mount of the USB itself. If I install to that, I only get a EFI-Backup folder but can't see any plain EFI folder. Can you give a little more detail around the whole Clover installation to USB so I can figure out what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Dave

Red_Z,

Try and follow the default Clover installation guide provided by Rehabman.
That might work better for you.

The XPS 9530 does not need any special modifications in order to install, just after installation to enable everything correctly.

Exception is the model with QHD+... In order to reach the installer, you must set config.plist/Graphics/Inject/Intel=false. Because QHD+ will not work OOB...

in bios the Intel tab is blank.. Is this normal?

I would need to check that, but I remember one of the menu's being blank (that is if you enable all the menus).

I now only enabled the menus I actually want.
