Yosemite Handoff-capable Bluetooth adapters?

A better board is like $150. Invest in the hack man and spend a little extra.

I got this board because it suits my needs. I don't really need the hand off feature. This is also my first build and while I can upgrade my board I don't plan right now as I just got this one. I had planned and still plan to upgrade to a board that supports thunderbolt inputs as soon as it becomes more popular.

Theres also a Gymle adapter beta fix for hands off out that seems to work so I'll just need to use that. $15 bucks for the adapter seems more logical for me than getting a whole new board especially since I just got this one.

I have one on the way from Osxwifi, should arrive Saturday.
I am running rock solid on Yosemite with Clover. I have iMessage working fine.
Is there any reason to think that installing the wifi/bt card from Osxwifi will stop iMessage from working?

Thanks!
Len

Not at all. It has nothing to do with iMessage

Good luck with that. I think with your board you should just take your mind off of Hand-off. It will be a waste of money as you will have to jump through many hoops to achieve something stable.

You should listen to Wairil and invest in a board that is upgradable, I assume that its how everyone thinks. Rather than buy a cheap or limited board that you will have to upgrade every year because of the limitations.

Why did you buy that board, if you don't mind me asking?

Is that for an entertainment box to put under the tv (HTPC)?

My board is 4 years old and the expandability is brilliant. It is one of the most popular Motherboards for building a Hackintosh.
You can get them cheap now and with an ivy bridge processor you will have something that will last you much longer than the one you have now. Thats for sure.

i purchased his board because it suits my needs. I'm not a pc gamer so a graphics card is not needed. I would like one for some occasional photo editing but I don't do much on this computer. I have an iMac and a MacBook and building a hackintosh was something I wanted to try. Also cost. I'm a student and money is really tight decided the budget custo Mac mini would suit my needs just fine.

Here's the link to anyone who had a Gymle adapter:

these seems em sto be a cheap solution.

I see. Ok, no worries. I have a Gymle adapter right in front of me. I had it before I purchased the official card and adapter. It is expensive, I don't deny it. It's also well worth it as it is another thing that you do not need to worry about. Having a functional keyboard and mouse and WiFi is half of the job.

Let me put this in the nicest way possible, the Gymle is absolutely the worst bluetooth adapter I have ever had the pleasure of using :). I mean, on the scale of 1 to 10 I will give it a 0.

I think you get the picture now. I went out and bought the Belkin bt 4.0 after buying it as it was disgraceful, the range is about a foot. Anything further than that will just disconnect or it is so intermittent (like a keyboard or mouse) that is basically unusable.

The build quality is atrocious, It won't fit in the usb plug unless forced.

I have sold my Belkin bt 4.0 after I bought the Apple one but I am afraid of selling this one as I will most likely get it back due to the buyer refusing it and it will all be more wasted money.

If there is such thing as a waste of money, this adapter is it.

Theres is a picture of it in this post. I had to shave a bit of the plastic from the plug in order to fit but it was still too tight.
I mean, if you want to waste more cash on things like this then go ahead. These adapters will obviously never work like the real thing. It is the cheapest option for a reason.

To start with, it will have to be patched after every OS X update. You will be at the mercy of the the person that created the patch, to make it compatible once again. It's also in Beta so, it might not even work with every configuration. It's made for a real Mac. The range is an issue, not the end of the world as some dongles get about a 5 meters range. It will never have the range of the official card with the 4 antennas.

I have been going backwards and forwards with cards like this for a while. Believe me, it is a waste of time and you will end up spending more money in the end.

If it weren't for hand-off and possibly other future features Apple might release I would be using my trusty Belkin 2.1. I still have that usb dongle also. I am keeping it in case I build another Hackintosh and want to use it for the basic functions.

I use hand-off everyday, I didn't think I would to begin with, but it is just second nature now and it is a great feature to have.

Just received mine from OSXWiFi.com. I spent the extra money because I wanted something that worked right out of the box. Unfortunately, bluetooth doesn't work. Wifi works fine. Switched PCI slots and USB headers but nothing. About this Mac lists "No information found' under Bluetooth. MB is Gigabyte Z87X-UD7 TH. Any ideas besides just a bad adapter? Thanks.

I had a small iogear BU521 bluetooth dongle before the official card and its range was fine, if the software hack is going to support and allow it to work I might use it again on my HP Probook 4530 since the internal wifi/bluetooth isn't compatible with Hand-off.
Any workaround that gets stuff working is good with me. Like, I don't have Airplay on my desktop, but Airparrot works great to send PPV shows from XBMC to my Apple TV in the living room.

Do you have any other USB2 header on the mobo maybe try another one ? When you connect it on the header do you see a green a led on the card ?
Maybe try another usb cable just in case.

On mine I couldn't get BT working in the BIOS/Clover but it worked fine in the OSes... I plugged it on a USB 3.0 header with a cable converter USB3->usb2 and now it works in BIOS/Clover. I'm starting to think some mobos or BIOS versions are not really happy with this card.

Not so fast Demonknight :) You are 100% right, unless Apple says 'No'. I had a configuration that was 100% working with full iMessage and FaceTime support, until I added the new bluetooth/wifi adapter.

What I mean is, if your configuration is solid you will not have any problems. By adding a new bt/wifi device iMessage might sign you off, just sign back in. It doesn't mess the iMessage configuration itself, it might just sign you off due to the hardware change.

It might also change the order of the ethernet devices, in that case you will need to give priority to lan, then wifi (en0/en1)
